    Amending with recharged batteries 😁

I did a pass in the park coming back home this morning - I'm still One-handed, so vertical is a better balance

A 2.5 hour road trip to Canberra to chase some Scarlet Robins and Rose Robins that are a little thin on the ground here in Sydney. It was very successful and very enjoyable.

On a clear night recently I managed to get some decent hand-held, VR and IBIS assisted, shots of the crescent moon with my Z9 and 800PF plus also with teleconverters.

    So here is a comparison of sample full size Crescent Moon shots with Z9 & 800PF, 800PF x 1.4 & 800PF x 2:

    First the bare 800PF:
    DSC_4140 Crescent Moon (800mm)-2-denoise -@85%q.jpg

    Next the 800PF with the Z 1.4TC (= 1120mm lens):
    DSC_4150 Crescent Moon (1120mm)-1-denoise -@85%q.jpg

    Finally with the Z 2x TC (= 1600mm lens):
    DSC_4156 Crescent Moon (1600mm)-denoise -@85%q.jpg

I find that inspection of these at full size shows that the 1600mm version clearly resolves the most detail .. which is not quite what I had expected as I thought that the 2x converter would lose as much as it gained in magnification, especially trying to use the setup hand-held!

Nice moon shots, and thank you for the TC information. 1.24 second exposure, is that right? I would love to see what the bare lens would produce with low ISO and fast shutter speed.

Hi Ernie, thanks for the comments ... and no the shutter speed was nothing like 1.24 seconds! I hadn't noticed but it seems that the site has mis-read the EXIF data. Not sure why, perhaps because the EXIF data got partially corrupted by a stage in processing with a pass through Faststone?

So here's the actual exposure settings I used for each shot:

    800mm : 1/2000th sec at f/6.3 ISO800, -2.67ev exp comp
    1120mm: 1/400th sec at f/10 ISO800, -2ev exp comp
    1600mm: 1/400th sec at f/14 ISO1600, -2ev exp comp

I had thought that pushing to use the lens at 1600mm hand-held might be a bit too ambitious. The Z 2x converter works better than I expected with this lens!

I am really loving using the 85 1.2 wide open for indoor basket. I never expected it to work so well for such use.

These are pretty intersting, and a much different look at subject isolation than the usual sports photos I see. I'm surprised there's that much dof at 1.2 though, but you might be decently far away
