It seems that Nikon Türkiye accidentally posted the specs for the 12-28 online (google translate asobinet, nikon rumours).

As expected it's small, light, variable aperture, and has VR; but I'm surprised by the lack of any mention of dust and drip resistance (unlike the 18-140, for example), the 67mm filter thread (I had suspected the 12mm wide end was so they could match the other larger DX lenses with 62mm), and apparently a voice coil motor for AF like the 400 f/2.8? That last one seems like massive overkill for such a small lens - the whole lens probably weighs as much as the focus group in the 400 f/2.8!

If it really doesn't have dust and drip resistance I don't see much point in buying it - what's the point of a landscape lens that can't take a light rain?

This lens is intended to be used in part for video shooting. Video-oriented cameras might not be the best suited for rainy conditions. (Nowadays, some of them have vents and fans.) I guess the same would be true for affordable video-oriented lenses. The power-zoom electronics and motors might need weatherproofing to a degree that would add too much bulk and cost to the lens.

Such a lens, however, would be worth it for fair-weather shooting. I have a Nikon J5 that I mostly use with a 10-30mm power zoom lens. Great little combo. But I avoid using it outside when it is raining or drizzling. Still, I’m glad I have it.

I'm not a wet weather photographer so it won't matter too much to me,
I'm looking forward to reading the reviews when the lens hits the shelves.
It will be a useful lens for much of my needs.
Have just joined this forum so hi to all.

This lens from what I understand is a power zoom lens and is geared more toward video content creators and vloggers. I have never used a power zoom lens before but I have read zooming may be controlled by the camera or by a ring on the lens. It will be interesting to see how it is priced and read the reviews, especially for using it for photos (and not just videos).

I recently picked up an f mount 10-20 mm in perfect condition for 170.00. I'm not a fan of power zooms, this will cover me for a while

I'd be interested to hear how you find the results.
Presumably you have an FTZ adapter.

I regret nt getting a 10-20 when it was cheap. The power zoom is going to be expensive with the excuse of geared for video specs.
