16-35mm GMII out of the picture for 2023 release?

Bunch of rumors and talk last year of a 16-35 GMII for early 2023, but turns out to be a 16-35 PZ F4

Next release might be a 85 1.2 GM which is a much needed refresh. Rumor has it round summer release 2023.

Does this mean a 16-35 GMII revision is out of the picture for a possible 2023?

I don't know, but why would it be 'out of the picture'? Because there are no rumours floating around? The bigger question is, does it actually need an upgrade? I can understand the need for the 85GM, which is a lens I use myself and really like, but its capability to focus in dimly lit studio's is not great. For sure I still like its rendering of images though!!

I tend to agree with REalpha's assessment that "out of the picture" is likely an overstatement.

It appears that Sony have prioritised several other lenses for a refresh/update, and it may be that their decisions have been in recognition of aspects of those lenses that no longer represent the best they are capable of, or recognition of a degree of dissatisfaction with those particular offerings in certain quarters (e.g. vocal minorities in remote silos of the internet). Or perhaps both.

While it is probably that the 16-35 GM will come up for refresh sooner or later, it's not surprising if it is a bit further down the list, since the current version is actually quite good and there does not appear to have been an echo-chamber of griping as has occurred in some quarters WRT a few other offerings.

So, in short, I wouldn't write it off as a possible candidate for an announcement later in the year, but until there is actually information at hand, we shouldn't count on it either.
