Does anybody still use them? I have only kit lenses and it good for a day, but not enough for other situations.
Why we don't have topics about this old system?

Simply that the 4/3 format was replaced by the micro 4/3 in 2008
Seven short years of existence for the 4/3, the latest model was released in 2010.
I have here a comparison between two 4/3 cameras the Olympus E-1 (2003) the first 4/3 and Lumix DMC-L1 (2006) the first 4/3 by Panasonic

Looks great, and Lumix was replace this design for the micro43 cameras. It's great kinds of stuff for collections, and for challenges. With these cameras, people need to think more about light, composition and put all in the frame, because can't crop pictures like on 24Mpx cameras.
Top models are very rare and expensive, but E420/450, E510/520 & E620 very often sell for 100$. It's an easy way to enter the world of photography when new cameras cost very much, and people stay at home and do not make photos.
I think the most important problem with this camera is the lenses. Because 10Mpx+ is still enough, but we don't have cheap lenses with f1.4/f2.8. Old Canon & Nikon now is better because we can find many different lenses for them. Shooting in bad light it's very hard on these cameras, but in daylight or in studios these cameras still work well.
I love the ergonomics E420, it is a very practical camera with many buttons and wheels.
I see that you have understood very well the advantages and disadvantages of the photographic industry.
And if the used (opportunity) does not scare you, there are great deals to be made, mainly on eBay 🤓
My E-500 is still my most favorite camera to shoot. That Kodak sensor is simply beautiful, the Zuiko glass is sharp and most times I don't need any more than 8MP.
And you can always upgrade to an Olympus E-600 with 12.3 MP for around $130.00 USD 😆
I want more 300mm, 25mm, and convertor 3/4 to OM lenses.
And yep, HikePics reminded me about the differences between CCD and CMOS matrix.
