I think manual focus with f/1 is going to be a pain in the tush

I'm thinking of one in M mount on the Techart M to Z AF adapter.
Having said that, I've had no trouble focussing my old F-mount 50/1.2 with the aids you get on a Z camera - in fact it's much easier than it was on my FM2n. I shouldn't think f/1 will be an order of magnitude harder.

This lens has already been out for some weeks.

My impression is that it is optimized for size, rather than performance, especially outside the center.
So the Z 50mm f1.2 is probably the better choice IMO if you care about the best optical performance.

For best review of this lens see this thread www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1741370

I'd think that the lens to compare this with is the Noct, not the 50 f/1.2S, and against that it looks both tiny and a bargain.
There are quite a few reviews that to my mind are more informative than the one that you quote. For instance: keithwee.com/2023/04/23/voigtlander-nokton-50mm-f1-aspherical-vm-review-setting-a-new-standard/
Mostly they don's subscribe to the view that it's not designed for performance.

Not with mirrorless and magnifying in on the subject, obviously not for sports shooting. Remember f/1 doesn't always mean razor thin dof, it's subject distant dependant. It's used to give a very specific cinematic look. I for one welome such lenses. The f mount would not have managed this, and for f1 it sounds like it is going to be amazing for the (relatively) low price of such an optic.

I care about look first in these applications. The voigt files look...better to me than the nikon 1.2. I also prefer that smaller size.

My only experience was the Noctilux and rangefinder is better than eyeball in low light. If not rangefinder I would want the best AI driven autofocus.
