I have recently re-discovered some of the music from my teenage years.

    Abraxas by Santana

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m9wwP4LNOQ

Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull

    side 1
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldXdnZtTWp8

    side 2
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTWQv8RsI6s

Side 2 has some wonderful orchestral accompaniments...

Ah, my music. I have both original albums plus CDs.

I grew up with Pink Floyd (I want to school with them and Roger Water's mother was my teacher for 11 plus), Genesis, Yes, etc. and still enjoy that style today.

So many good talented bands with their own unique styles back then...

Agree! There's no lack of unique bands right now. Difference is they don't get famous anymore because the mainstream is very different.

A good band is the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Joe Cocker died and before Leon Russell died, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks did a Mad Dogs and Englishmen Tribute Concert in 2015 for the two Legendary Musicians. There doesn't appear to be a Full video, only clips.

Hi resolution downloads on Bandcamp, are great for obscure music, especially stuff from the other side of the world. They also cost half the price of a CD.

    How about

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7PUPNxsRQ0

This is one of those songs that was iconic (as well as the band) way back then, but the sort of music I drifted away from. Hearing it again now it is great to revisit its simple excellence.

Some Musical Bands allude to a future happening which we wouldn't have known of at the time. Supertramp's Breakfast In America Cover shows apparently 9/11 (UP mirrored is 911). An Airplane and viewing out of the Plane window are the "Twin Towers". I never would have guessed it.

There are videos made about this connection.

I remember from a long time ago, a Steve Hoff or Hoffman (spelling?) who used to run a Photography site but I can't recall which one it was now.

With Regards To 1970s Music, for the Movie Deliverance, the Burt Reynolds Jon Voight Movie, the Banjo kid who "played" Duelling Banjoes wasn't a Banjo player at all. Billy Redden now travels and acts for the role which made him Famous, the Banjo Kid.

A special Shirt had to be made for the purpose of filming Deliverance - Duelling Banjoes. Another person was the one playing the Banjo from behind, not him. Concealed by limiting camera angles.

I can't NOT think of The Eagles when it comes to 70's music. I have discovered recently a fantastic live show recorded in 2005- Farewell 1 Tour: Live from Melbourne. The name is a bit misleading (I think a version of the band still plays in Vegas), but the concert is a great tour through their music (and some solo Joe Walsh and Don Henley stuff). It's somewhere near a 3 hour show.

The TV version of Hell Freezes Over show is also fantastic (has more songs than the album version).

With regards to the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt discovered them. They were her Backup Singers before they found Fame. Linda Ronstadt is another terrific Singer.

For me, the 70's were early Genesis.

In 1971 I went up to Durham to see some friends in college there (I went the next year). Someone had some music on a reel-reel tape recorder and it was brilliant. But I didn't know what it was. I had a r-r player at home (Cambridge) so the reel was copied and I then rode 240 miles back home (on a Triumph Daytona, but that's another story). On the way back the reel came off the back of the bike and unrolled itself down the A1 (if you are in the UK, this will mean something to you). So, I spent 30 minutes gathering it back up and winding it back on the reel. I wasn't going to lose it. Got back home and it played OK. Eventually I heard the same music on the radio and went and bought the album. This is still one of my favourite tracks of all time.

When we first started this thread and I was watching the odd utube vid, I noticed in the suggestions a few "Classical Composer / Musician hears band / album xyz for the first time". These were mostly under 30 classically trained professionals who knew their stuff. I started watching a few which was quite rewarding because they were mostly very impressed with what they heard. One funny one was a female flautist having kittens watching Ian Anderson waving his flute around in the air. None the less she was impressed with his ability and the fact that he was self taught.

    My claim to fame?

I was taught by Roger Water's mother (she got me through my 11+) and was at the same school as most of them (although they were a few years ahead of me)

Some of the old Music were based on Classical Music. Procol Harum's Whiter Shade Of Pale, Eric Carmen's All By Myself. Ritchie Blackmore mentioned Beethoven's 5th Symphony was his inspiration for Smoke On The Water. That's funny.
