I have never ever recorded videos with any camera. But mostly because my computer has Phenom II 945 X4 and 1GB Radeon 7850 and 640GB HDD. If I got a new computer, then I might start recording behind the scenes for my photos and post them on Youtube.

I am not sure there is any "Youtube craze". I know Instagram has been switching to "reels" to compete with Tiktok, but that's a different thing. That's vertical videos from phones, not regular horizontal videos from dedicated cameras. You can see the same thing on Youtube with its "shorts". That suggests even Youtube is losing users to Tiktok and trying to compete.

I do have a photographic education (RIT), but never worked as a full time pro. I consider myself an enthusiast. I pride myself on the skills I've learned over the years and using those skills to create good images. Where is the fun and satisfaction in just picking a frame from a video clip?

I think YouTube as a "craze" ship has sailed a while ago. They don't pay content creators very well anymore, at least not the average ones. Tiktok is killing it right now, and everybody is using phones for that.

You did a really nice job on that. I liked it.

There's a reason Panasonic keep making hybrid cameras, with the focus shifting more and more to video. They saw it first, I'm surprised it's taken this long for Canon etc to twig to the fact.
Luckily, still photographers want pretty much the same thing as the video crowd. More dynamic range, less noise, more megapixels, faster readout sensors and so forth. I don't think it's too difficult for the manufacturers to make a dumbed down video beast that just shoots single frames to satisfy the older audience. For a while yet, until they literally all die off. Much like Harley Davidson's customer base as an example. They're now finally moving with the times.

I very rarely shoot video, but there are times when video is a tool to use, that gets a certain shot from a 'frame grab' that you would not normally be able to get from a stills camera.

I have never understood why I have zero interest in video. I have never shot any except by mistake on my phone. I also do not watch tv and only rarely go to movies. I think it is very odd, but if as many as 20% of the first world population agree with me, I must be wrong!

Apple were smart to notice that the world was becoming i-centric and worse still, cool to be that way. Everything else just follows. Selfie stills become selfie vids...
