Winter is over and the leaves are already out on most trees … and the birds are found among the branches and leaves …

    1 Brown Trasher behind branches.jpg

where we have to shoot around them .. or in the leaves …

    2 Robin among the leaves.jpg

These pictures were shot using the M1.2 with the soon to be retired for the summer O100-400mm lens ….

    3 Brown Trasher in Tree.jpg

I have a few hours in the morning when the sun slants into the yard and my neighbor's pecan tree isn't yet in full foliage … then the shade creeps in and light is just not enough for that lens … BTW birds in my yard are often seen looking up as they watch out for the Cooper's Hawk ...

    4 Red Breasted Woodpecker.jpg

These are a few of the many pictures of these birds that I might share from winter and early spring as the summer arrives …

    5 Blue Bird.jpg

In fact I have 100 new pictures of that Brown Thrasher and just as many of the woodpecker walking up the tree .. none in flight .. well a few taking off .. and also lots of flowers that I haven't shown you .. so fewer walks this summer .. I suspect we'll be sitting about the yard … but I have some cool drinks and lots of coffee so …

    Lovely bird shots WN.
Too bad you have to retire the 100-400 when it gets shady.
I'll have coffee for now - it's still too cool here for a cool drink.

Really like the new expanded view slideshow - so much easier to browse the shots.

A nice set of birds WN. I like woodpeckers so they are always a treat. I have to go get fertilizer bags out of the 'barn' for my wife. I hurt just thinking about it!

Excellent pictures, WhyNot. I especially like the tidbit of information about why they're looking up. It adds to the post. Rich

Beautiful shots, all of them. With the views here you really need to click on them and view them in the galley to see those beautiful sharp details. Excellent shots.

A great selection of bird images WN. If I had to pick just one it would be the woodpecker. We used to see them occasionally but the little wood where they lived has been cut down and they seem to have moved elsewhere.

I love it here in your back yard in the sun. Any chance of a 🍺?

    To All

I want to thank you all for stopping by to comment on my resident birds ….. As I am have a bit more problem with my vertigo and I will probably be spending more time around the yard and with these birds so you should get to know them pretty well if you stay around with me …

Paul … good to have you along . I hope to walk along with you and see more of your beautiful resident birds ….

Jim … that 100-400mm lens is really versatile and that is needed for these yard birds as they move about but it is limited and I hate pushing and working with that noise at 6400 and I rarely ever go north of there and that is required to get the speeds I need to reduce my motion blur as the deep shade falls over the yard .. Nice for sitting not so for photographing … Hope to move closer and use the; 200mm range …

Thanks for stopping by Andrew .. don't hurt your back doing that yard work … and more woodpeckers to come …

Good to have you along, Rich … I think I've mentioned that looking up character before and not sure that is entirely correct as that Cooper's will sometimes come in low and skim over the yard and past the feeders … only careless birds get caught as they are very alert and cautious … I was standing on a step ladder shooting humming birds a couple years ago when one passed just under my chin …!!!

I appreciate your stopping by and comment, Danny … I have noticed that posted picture seem to improve when viewed by clicking on then and now with the gallery view .. my normal procedure on this site … I think they down res them for inclusion …

Well Dave glad to have you stopping by and I do have a Kolch in the fridge … always ice tea …. maybe something else .. It seems we'll be spending more time sitting here watching those birds flying in and out of three and shade … more watching and less photography I fear but then I have a whole album of bird and flower pictures I haven't shared from this winter and early spring …. a little like watching a neighbor's slides of their recent trip I fear …

Good to see you again Charlotte .. I have lots of peckers to share .. just stay around ….

    Thank you all …

I certainly hope this group reply works!!!! ...
