American Tree Sparrow is migratory, so maybe common in some places, rare in other, but depends on time of year. The come down to the 48 for winter and then migrate back to Canada as far a Yukon and Alaska for breeding. They're not commonly in urban settings, preferring farm and fields around woods perimeters.
A cool bird - not major singer, but chirpy. I do remember them, when I lived back east. They would hang out at our place because I did provide seed for birds in the winter, especially when we had a good snow cover.
We don;t get them out here in CA. But they appear similar to our Lark Sparrow, which is rare these days because of habitat lose. Thx for for the pic!
