The "big" photography names that I grew up with are getting fewer and fewer as time takes its toll. Sadly Elliot Erwitt has passed away. His humorous photography was unbeatable.

The world of photography does not seem to produce these giants of the medium any more.

What they had in common was analog film and the inability to see their results instantly. Even so, we find that they were economical with the number of shots they took. Perhaps the instant playback, “free film stock”, and use of post processing software will eventually be seen as a distraction that these giants were lucky not to have. Maybe it actually gets in the way of creative ability today.

I certainly see that tendency in present day professional audio recording. I was lucky to work in that “industry” in analog days, when superb, indeed non-pareil, results were achieved by similar giants, with relatively primitive equipment. A golden age.

All because pretty girls drive engagement metrics better... sigh.
