The X-T4 was my first Fujifilm camera. I was leaning towards the X-H line at the time, but it was one generation behind, and I wanted to have the latest & greatest in tech. I was never a huge fan of the dial concept on modern cameras, but thought that it wouldn’t really matter as the buttons & wheels are pretty configurable, and I don’t have any issues looking like a hipster. But then I realized that the back wheel is flimsy and doesn’t feel great to operate (some folks attribute it to the wheel being clickable, but the wheel on my Leica M11 is also clickable and not flimsy at all). My initial plans didn’t work out in practice when shooting outside.

A couple of years later and the X-T4 is my least used MILC. It’s not that I regret the purchase, and it’s not a bad camera at all. I really like the feeling & photos I get out from it, but it’s still my least favorite one. These days it’s permanently glued to the 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR, which is a great lens, but way too big for APS-C. I can just take out my Canon R5 in these situations as the size is similar (another topic for another time).

Then I got the X-Pro3 (which is technically speaking a generation behind), and I couldn’t be happier. I use it with the slow Fujicrons which obviously have their flaws and are quite expensive for what they are, but they are such a great fit for this camera.

Fujifilm is the only company that delivers such quality at that size plus weather-resistance, and a really solid feel. The X-Pro3 clicked instantly for me, and it’s one of my most beloved bodies these days.

I like my X-T4, also with the 16-55/2.8 glued to it, but I’ve never quite fallen in love with the camera. I lust for a larger grip and have been on the fence over an XH2/S, but there are some odd ergonomic choices Fuji made there. I don’t really need the 40MP of the XH2, and the price of the XH2S is high enough here to also put me off.

So I guess for now, I stick with the X-T4!

This pretty much sums up my thoughts about this camera.

Very rational decision, wouldn’t do it differently. Contrary to you I like the higher resolution as this gives more leeway in post if necessary, and storage isn’t really that expensive these days (especially when you compare it to camera prices). I’m also not very convinced about the current generation of the X-H line. Would they’ve combined both cameras into one (speed & resolution) this would be a very different proposition. This is not an easy task, so let’s see what the X-H3 will bring. But as I’m so happy with the X-Pro3, I’m not really sure I’m in the target group for the X-H line anymore.

I own the Fujifilm X-T5, I like it too, at least I think! 🙄
But for handling and sheer fun, the Nikon D500 is hard to beat. ❤️

I’m still quite satisfied with my aging X-T2 (w/Meike handgrip). The 16-55 is on there when its versatility is called for (often), but I also have an X-T20 and smaller primes when smaller and lighter is in order (and an X100V). I haven’t found a real need for IBIS and/or eyeball tracking etc., I’m sure that could be handy, but I’m really not having any difficulty shooting anything I want to shoot, day or night, indoors or out. I think there’s an X-T5 on the horizon, but I sure as hell don’t need it. No regrets at all with any of my Fuji cameras, I use all three about equally.

Which attributes would you choose to describe the X-T5 experience? And when do you feel you prefer the X-T5 over the D500?

I've only had the X-T5 for three months (winter months) Long live Spring!
Unlike the Nikons I've been using for decades. My opinion on the X-T5 is not very thorough at the moment.
But Fujifilm seems to me very promising for the future, I like their commitment and their stand for APS-C.
The size, the lightness, and the price play in their favor.
And I'm impressed with the results from the 40MP sensor. I will surely have a more in-depth opinion of my X-T5, at the end of summer. At least I hope so 😃

I bought my X-T2 over the D500 (and the D750), both which were on my shortlist back in the day. The D500 is a great camera for birders and long lens shooters in general, but that’s not me. I preferred the Fuji in almost every way, still do.

I like all my cameras, starting with Leica IIIF, and many bodies after, mostly film and a few digital, the latest, for me it is X-T4. Fine camera, no regrets. The wheel is excellent (by the way I have premonition for digital Leicas; took M9 out once, the shutter went dead on me in 15 min :) The only thing I don't like is big lenses. So, the ones I have are all small and light.

For what it's worth, I find the back and front wheels on the X-T5 a significant improvement over those on the 4. Certainly still not the best you can find, but much better dampened.

Hey, thanks for the info. Something like this isn’t usually mentioned in reviews, and I’m glad we can share it here.

As the saying goes, the devil is in the details. Why change a good and, speaking as a Fujifilm user, unique concept like the X-T when it works for so many photographers. Just improve on the small things like the wheel to make it even better.

Never owned the 4 but have a closet full of all brands of recent cams/lenses and almost a chronological history of Fuji cams and lenses. Presently the T5 ticks the boxes for me. Controls are confident, good haptics. I have large hands but it still feels good. Also have the optional grip but after using it I felt I didn't need it. Used to have the 16-55 glued to my cam but the smaller primes make the cam light and capable enough for most situations. 40MP helps. Not one to crop but if need be, the IQ really doesn't suffer. There has been comments of inconsistent AF but that hasn't been my experience.

For pleasure shooting, it is an advantage to have a "beloved" cam. No regrets on the T5 and that's the one I grab 1st....... and I have a small cam store's worth of current gear. (ugh!)

I had the X-T3 and sold it for 2 reasons, I found the menu system too complicated, and since I am a left-eye shooter, my nose kept activating the LCD screen and changing settings and focusing points all the time which was very frustrating.

With those funds, I got a Canon RP kit which I love.

I kept my Fuji primes though, I might be interested in an X-E4 if the hype fades and used prices go back to normal in a year or so.

Do you have the small or heavy ones? It’s a pity that the smaller lines (X-E & X-S) don’t have any weather resistance.

No regrets for me! I am very happy with my X-T3, especially the traditional exposure control dials. I am also partial to using the aperture ring on the lens to choose my aperture, just like I did in my film days. Yes, I am very happy with my choice!

    @SquadShooters

I have 3 from the classic era: 18mm f2 (my favorite), 35mm f1.4, and 60mm f2.4... plus (my least favorite) 23mm f2 "Fujicron". It is a pity they have been eating dust for the last 6 months.

No regrets buying my X-T3. I bought it when my X-Pro1 died. I did not like the changes made to the X-Pro3, and didn't care for the X-T4, so I went with the X-T3. I was able to get a great price from BH on a new one. It has been a good successor to the X-Pro1. I would love another body like the X-Pro1, provided they go back to the old OPV, and get rid of the odd screen they used for the X-Pro3.

Had the X-T5 been available when I bought my X-T3 I would have considered it, though the price on the X-T3 would have made it tough to pass up.
