Doing some night shots with Z7 20mm
    dprevived.com/t/a-little-nightshift-with-z7-20mm-18/1747/

    My work-flow:

    • set AF to AF-S
    • focus on far away light or for near objects use flashlight to assist AF.
    • set AF to manual

    Take multiple photos.

Now my problem is the huge manual focus ring of the 20mm.
In the dark I touch it too often and focus is gone.
Any Idea how to complete disable focus even manual AF?

The only idea I have is to disable the focus ring in the settings. Don't know if that is possible with this lens. You can define a user mode for this. But it is an awkward solution.

    Hope there's something useful here:

    Thanks to everybody.
Deactivating in the menu A13 seems to depend on the used lens.
Found this works for me with every lens:

    • menu f2 set af-on button to af-on activate focus
    • menu a7 set to only af.on button
    • set focus to af-s

now focus ring will only work if i switch from af-s to manual.
    af works hitting af-on
and shutter does not activate af.

Seems to depend on the lens. I am using back button focus too. But manual override works on my lenses still, even if I do not press AF-ON. I won't see the focus peaking which works only while actually focussing. But the focus changes.

I was already considering to suggest your solution before I posted mine. Then I tried it out, and it did not work.
