I idly wonder why cameras of that shape are called "rangefinders" when they are not rangefnders ...

    Hi,

Rangefinder Style, then. Me, I don't mind it being called Rangefinder. And, it probably sports the split image focusing aid in the EVF, which is how my one and only film Rangefinder works.

What I noticed first in the announcement was just how far into the body, and close to the sensor, the lens is.

    Hello,

Yes, I fondly remember the split image/prism thingy on my Rangefinder-style Praktica MTL-3 ...

But I do wonder if it is a good move to buy a fixed lens camera at this price

In my opinion, Fuji are jumping on the "compact camera" frenzy. They struck gold with the X100VI and are trying it on with the large format. Note their emphasis on weight and portability.

    Alan

Maybe, and from a sales & marketing perspective may well be an excellent plan, although reading around this was discussed in 2019, and given research, design, tooling etc timescales may well have predated the ticktock X100V demand.

That aside however, Fujifilm have a long history in MF film cameras with fixed lenses as well as interchangeable lens cameras, so in many respects this could be said to be more a continuum for them.

Either way, more choice and different design options is good in my humble opinion

    Hi,

It's not for me, but I hope it sells well. Then, perhaps, they might pop out a wide variant using dual 100 MP sensors. I recall wide film variants. That would give us something truly new.

    Hi,

And lower res. I see 200 MP phone cameras these days....

But not all pixels are equal. I bet the 100RF makes superior images. Even if it is ugly and has a phone lens. ;)

Is the use of dual sensors common in the camera world?

Nope, I definitely remember having a 28mm lens before mobile phones were even invented, and its why I've used the WCL on my Fuji X100's one the years because I personally prefer 28mm fov to 35 or 24, but that's just me

Equally, I like the design aesthetic as well

its a photography forum, cant people see distorted images ! our camera club would be in a better shape if people were told the truth about their images, instead its fallen to bits over the years and everyone is blind to the reason why. the new fuji camera is just following the phone trend, in fact if you took the new fuji to dinner and took a table full of guests in low light a phone would blow it away.

    Hi,

Nope. Only one I can think of is the 40 MP Kodak CCD used in the Pentax 645D.

    Had a bad day Donald?

Not sure I'd use a 28 for portraits, although environmental portraits do spring to mind, but if my avatar bothers you that much, when I've got the time and inclination I'll take a standard and probably very boring self portait that your camera club would be proud of 😂
