Battersea power station, the iconic art deco 4 chimney building that has stood derelict and unloved for decades has finally been redeveloped as shops, cafes, bars, a cinema, offices and residential property. It's open to the public and I spent a day there this week photographing the exterior and interior (and a few places on the way!).

I used my Lumix G9, 14-140mm superzoom, a fisheye lens and a Kipon shift adaptor plus Tamron Adaptall 2 17mm full frame lens.

The full gallery is on my website here: whisperingcat.co.uk/piwigo/index.php?/category/43&display=2small

I hope you find these as interesting as I did spending the day there.

I'd recommend spending an afternoon there if you are visiting London and get the chance. It's free to go in. The redevelopment has a way to go yet, I spoke with a security guy who said the entire middle section is still being built. They have a lift in one of the chimneys which goes up to a viewing platform. I didn't get to try that. The grounds surrounding the main building development are also interesting if you like modern building design. My wife got to go see the site on official visits as part of her job when the place was an empty shell. I'm envious of that.

Battersea Power Station was an important icon in my youth because the athletics track where I used to train was in Battersea Park, just across the railway tracks from the power station. It is absolutely huge from that distance and totally dominated the running track.

Great shots (and those on your site) but I think that you need a shot from across the river to show the building as a whole and its scale.

We don't get to go to London very much nowadays, but I would low to go up to the observation platform on top of the chimney.

I started the outing from Victoria and took some establishing shots across the river from the end of Lupus Street. Unfortunately, they seem to be missing from my set. Time to go back to the SD card and check.

EDIT: Found half a dozen shots from the walk over I'd deleted for some reason. Bit of flare on the across the river shot, sorry!

    Here they are:

I've added the missing shots to my gallery and tweaked the ordering a bit, and remove a couple of dodgy images from the original set. Thanks for the suggestion!
