DPReview was a lot more than forum.

Any plans for carrying a news feed, or conducting reviews, or (dare I say) conducting the incredible sensor tests with the photo of the playing cards, paints and whatnot?

I’m just curious mostly. I don’t mean this as a complaint at all. The forum is the best part anyway and YouTube is flooded with camera reviewers anyway.

I’d say, if there’s one feature I miss, it’s being able to upload photos. And we don’t really need photo upload per se, because you aren’t Amazon and don’t have unlimited petabytes of space. But if there was a specific service this forum could link to for uploading and sharing all of the EXIF, that would be great, I think.

Yes, we do have plans. But there are a few things to consider:
    - DPReview had a considerable staff for a photo web site. This one is at present entirely run by volunteers.
    - If and when we do it, we want to do it properly - so it takes time to set up, both in terms of the site infrastructure and the required facilities to do testing. For instance, the test scene needs to be permanently installed in a very well equipped studio.
    - We don't know for sure that DPReview is closing, and if not, what it will be offering in the future. If we end up competing we need to do better, or different.

But you can upload photos. What bit are we missing that you want?

I thinks its about to have your own gallery with we are planning anyway, so yes will have more options in the future than just upload Images to the post you are making right now.

In the meantime, can you explain, if possible, how to post uploaded images (full resolution) in another thread without re-uploading them? So far I only was able to repost the 'thumbnail'.

No, you have to re-upload them. Which is where a gallery will be better.

I think you can copy the link of your original post and paste it in the new one…

Good one, but I just wanted to add an image to a thread. Not with the content of the original thread as the purpose was entirely different (show the capability of a camera/lens combo vs 'show your statue photos'). It's not an earth shattering difference, but still important IMO.

This is how I have been pointing back to an image in a different thread. It gets me the thumbnail that can be clicked on to get to the higher resolution image.

There may be other methods for doing this as well.

If you mean the error when you change the post/page, then we do know about it. The way around is to log off and log back in and then not mess around with it for now (I don't get any errors when I click the links)

    Hi!
You must copy and paste only the image link: in the edit screen on the original post, it looks something like

    “![811F5BD5-3E49-4715-A83A-BFAB25BB3012.jpeg
    (/a/thum/zFv09UTocUM8AeXFh3pkub6os51qzCDQO9L6UdKJaAbZ4iV6Rko3BSvARlD59KxB /7629/?shva1)/a/zFv09UTocUM8AeXFh3pkub6os51qzCDQO9L6UdKJaAbZ4iV6Rko3BSvARlD59KxB/7629/?shva1)”

…and you get the full resolution image:

If you click the "Image" icon instead of "Upload File" it asks you for image description and address. Can you not give the address of the previous image?

I have not tried. Just guessing.

PS: Trying it now. This is a photo I uploaded in another post.

I see that it doesn't behave the same way though.

In my original post, the text below the photo with camera name and exposure settings is a hyperlink. I right-clicked on it and copied the link.

In the image above, that is plain text, not a hyperlink. Also, clicking the photo above doesn't open in a pop-up window, which it does in my original post. It's a good workaround because I myself don't like to upload photo multiple times.

I think this should work. I'll try first.

Stupid me. That had already been tried.

    Testing this:

Almost works, I only cannot get the image itself linked.

You can upload full resolution images into another thread without re-uploading them by using the BBcode "url" and "img" tags.

The image below is my image originally uploaded in my Huggins Lookout Thread.

This way you don't eat into your upload quota when you display the same image in more than one post.

Clicking the image below will display the full size image.
