None other than a bird has contributed to solving a robbery in Rotterdam-Nesselande. The armed robbery of a house on Laan van Magisch Realisme took place in April last year.
Two men committed the robbery. One went in, tied the victim up and threatened him with what looked like a gun. Soon after, the robbers took off again with a bank card, telephones and other items.
The police launched an investigation to find the perpetrators and made good use of camera images from the area. It showed that there was, yes, bird droppings on the roof of the suspects' car.
Normally, license plates are a useful tool to find a vehicle, but they were just not legible from the camera angle. The bird droppings suddenly came in very handy for the police. In this way, one suspect was arrested and a short time later the police also arrived at the second suspect.
The judge has since sentenced both suspects to four years in prison. They must also pay the victim compensation.
