There are quite a few Noisy Miners around here and a not so scared young one often flies in under the verandah catching small spiders. Sometimes it will perch on the clothesline just over my head - drives the dog crazy...

Unfortunately, around here anyway, Noisy Miners have become so successful in the urban environment that they tend to drive out other types of birds. 10 or so years ago, we would get a lot of Willy Wagtails, New Holland Honeyeaters and some other smaller birds in our backyard but we pretty much never see them now.

Anyway, here is a photo I took of a Great Egret earlier this year at Normanville on the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula, South of Adelaide.

It looked like a type of Jay to me, and then AI identified it as a probable Eurasian Jay.

Most of the local birds have been missing the last couple of months or so. I have no idea why. So I was happy to see a couple of young Honeyeaters casing my favourite dragonfly spot. I watched one checking out some of the dragonflies but it probably knew it wouldn't be able to catch any...

Here are a couple of photos of a Brush Turkey with his nest, which is basically a pile of sticks and leaves about 1 metre high and about 4 metres in diameter. These were taken in Sydney. The Brush Turkey are a protected species (which pretty much all native birds and animals are) so if one decides to build a nest on your property, there's nothing you can do about it!
