This is a 6 shot stitched panorama using Photoshop Elements of the Black Rock Yacht Club, Cerberus Beach House and Half Moon Bay Life Saving Club at Black Rock on Port Phillip Bay south east of Melbourne, Australia.

As always, comments and feedback welcome 🙂

It's a well done shot. I particularly find your use of colors interesting. It reminds me of heat maps visualizing eye tracking data, for example those showing how viewers perceive images:

    imotions.com/case-study/tracking-the-photographers-eye/

Are you doing that (trying to draw additional attention to certain parts of the image) intentionally or is it just a coincidence or a way to show how you perceive the image?

I like the colors in this sample, even though I'd personally try to use the orange tones a bit more nuanced.

Yes, you are spot on. I am trying to draw attention to certain parts of the image - the Black Rock Yacht Club (rightmost building structure) and the Half Moon Life Surfing Club (left most building structure).

Below is the documentary version. The scene is a little too "flat" for my liking so I wanted to add some "warm light" to the 2 structures mentioned above and "cooler light" to the rest of the scene using colour gradients in Photoshop Elements. I localised the application of the warm and cool light using layer masks painted with various shades of grey to vary the lights' intensity.

I remember trying different colours/shades in the gradients and I liked this result the most but if I have time at some stage I will experiment a bit more.

A very nice picture, Danno. Many thanks for sharing it. I like the colour balance of this one better. The sea colour in the first one was a bit too ultramarine for me!

Thank you for looking and commenting David 🙂

I see what you mean and fair enough. Final "Artistic" versions mostly come down to personal preferences and taste. One day I might come back and play with it a bit more to see if I can come up with something I like more.

Now that's an image that triggers memories. I grew up on that beach. Half Moon Bay. I lived in Cheltenham and in the 50s and 60s we pushbiked there most weekends through the summer. You would have found me on the sandy stretch in the curve left of the buildings. Almost certainly my current skin cancer concerns have a link to that Bay as well. The Cerberus is quite a story and would be worth a photo series in itself. As would the foreshore tea tree and banksia scrub. One of my very favourite Australian painters, Clarice Beckett did a lot of her work around this area.
I live in Adelaide now but when in Melbourne this is a spot I often revisit. Nostalgia plus.

Thank you Mike. I'm glad you like it and that it brings back some pleasant memories 🙂

As you mentioned and are obviously aware, the HMVS Cerberus wreck is located a little to the right of the panorama scene and I took this photo at the same time as the pano shots.

Great photo. That's one of the better shots of the Cerberus I have seen.
