Having them paused by default would be good enough for me. There are valuable uses for the animated GIFs, as not everything can be demonstrated statically.
It has had no effect because you donβt get to decide for everyone else whether the gifs bother them or not π
Some people don't like them, some do.
The simple solution if you don't like them is to simply block them instead of making a fool of yourself trying to impose your preference on everyone else ππ
That is the way it should be in fairness to everyone π
The sensible answer is that we can't bad animated gifs (stupid or otherwise). All I can ask is that people use them sensibly. If I am told of ones that may offend (and it is my decision as to 'offend', so please lets not go down that route), then they will get moved.
A wishlist feature to take the idea up a notch for me would be the ability to only hide posts between specific pairs or groups of people, who are at their most immature and inefficient of screen real estate when they are doing their tit-for-tat duels.
