G1X powershots deserve a lot of love. These buggers produce some magic. I was waiting for mk 2, only to witness have its sensor cropped, and III to get the dimmer lens for money I would expect it to have fast lens. And so the biggest WOW effect in my eyes still comes from the first G1X. If I find it for peanuts somewhere again, It might make me consider it over first M.
Glad to have you here. Hope you share some G1X love (images) with us.
I just signed up here, getting the info from the DP Review; glad to see this will continue. I have G1X and a G12; the G12 converted to IR.
I got mine last October on eBay, $170 near mint with the filter adapter. I got it for its compactness and its sensor size. Most of its downsides, like slow autofocusing and a somewhat short zoom range, don't bother me, but the basically useless optical viewfinder does. Still, it wasn't a secret because I have had a G12 for almost ten years, and it has the same viewfinder. To get around that, I use an adapted LCD viewer.
I still have my G1X from many years ago. I prefer using the G1XII these days though.
Glad I am not the only one to appreciate this unique camera with its (at the time) ground breaking sensor. Yes, it does have some close focus issues but they are minor.
I did buy a set of close-up lenses for the times I may want some photos of flowers or what have you. May use them this year; quite the wildflower season here in California.
