Just enjoyed this great video by Duade Paton trying out a Z9 for birding and getting excellent results!):

A good demonstration showing how effective the Z9 AF can be. It's apparent that he enjoyed the experience!

Agreed - I left the following comment for Duade : "Duade - great vid and fantastic coverage/shots.
Your issues with tracking were down to setup choices - you could have chosen to assign 3D + AF-ON to a button. It sounds like you just chose to change AF-mode without AF-ON hence why you needed to press 2 buttons
Let me know if you want a Z9 settings guide."

Hello Andy - I'd like to see your settings guide. I love looking at what other people are doing to achieve results.

It is a spreadsheet and you can find it in the blog entry on my website
-- Steve P and I and many others have had long discussions/conversations about how AF works on the Z9 and how to obtain better results even when using the best glass available. You will find various diatribes on the subject about the need for users of the Z9 (and frankly all other prolevel camera bodies) to bring professional approach to their shooting -- being flexible and adaptable are key, but so is preparation and understanding what you and your tools are good at and less good at.....

I found Hudson Henry's YT series on Z9 settings very useful and of course one can go to the Thom Hogan or Steve Perry bibles for the details.

Duade Paton also did a similar video using an OM System OM-1. He enjoyed using that camera too, and managed to get great results with that camera as well.

Imagine that. Cameras of different brands all producing good results. Fanboys must be frustrated by that concept.

I'm sure most wildlife photographers would get great results no matter the brand, no matter the camera (age) and no matter its pricepoint, as long as there's a decent lens attached to it.

Though I shoot nikon, I always tell people everything has long been good enough if you have the skill.

Newer bodies and better lenses make it easier though.

Thanks for sharing this. I like how he shows you the before and after photos. Now I don't feel too bad that a lot of my photos aren't perfectly level when I take them :-D

I found that to be a really cool thing I wish more people did.
