I'm just getting started setting up my new R10. I'll primarily be shooting with shutter speed priority, I see that there are a number of different ways for defining the area that will be used for autofocus, but no comparable settings to identify the area that will be used for determining the exposure.. My preference would be to be able to specify them separately (and differently). What research I've done doesn't say that it can't be done, but I can't see a way to do it.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Very simple Artie! First of all I don't think you can do this in Auto mode so set the dial to TV for instance. Press the shutter halfway to get the lcd screen in shooting mode and press the Q in the upper right corner. Next, press the square with the circle in it, second icon from the left bottom of screen, and this will give you about 4 metering modes to choose from. By the way if you go to Canon's website you can download the 900+ page R10 user manual. Good luck!

I swear by the Nina Bailey manuals, though I dont think she has one on the R10 yet. They are quite comprehensive, well-illustrated, a lot shorter than 900 pages, and cheap e-books.
