I've just noticed that Canon have introduced the R100 - which seems to have taken the sensor and Digic 8 from the M50 and paired it with the battery from the M5.

It is very cheap though and could be a good introduction into the R range for new people.

Interesting choice/entry. But the system is still "young" and not very tempting for upgrades. Either too expensive, or no IBIS, poorer video capabilities, lens choice, blocked third party, you name it. Canon cripple hammer in action at every stage to make your toes curl.
If this is aimed at young, or "professionally" young, or "less finantially secured" they missed on touch display big time.

I was hoping the R100 would have a M200 form factor, with a nice touch screen, for it to be my ‘almost pocketable’, discreet, take anywhere camera with this nice new little pancake lens or a future RFS 22. On the other hand, who else is selling a new ILC for $479, with a good sensor (love my M50 pictures), nice AF and very decent HD video? This camera is probably not for folks like us, who are part of a photography forum, but might entice many new users into the mirrorless world: moms shopping at Costco, youngsters creating a their new tik tok videos, etc. A flipping, touch screen would have helped but then you can spend a hundred bucks more and get the R50. Canon catering to all pockets. In my opinion, if one can afford, the sweat spot in the lineup is really the R10: small size, speed, IQ and AF from new processor/sensor, ergonomics (grip, dials, joystick, etc).

Agree, I thought a "rangefinder" form factor would have been nice for such a cheap camera. But really, Canon needs some decent RF-S lenses. They seem to have more bodies than lenses at this point.

Yes, the R10 with the great FOV range 18-150 is excellent and the deals that are around make it Bang 4 Buck$

I tried that lens on an M6 II, and was really disappointed. Canon needs to step up their RF-S lenses, and badly.

I see it as just a desperate cash grab from Canon. A way to get consumers to repurchase all their old EFM mount lenses in recycled RF mount.
