Beautiful shot! My girlfriend and I were just up in that area a week ago - we flew to Whitehorse for almost a week to see the aurora. One of the days we were there we rented a car and drove down to Skagway. The scenery was absolutely spectacular, and now I know why they called it "White Pass"!

How did you get into that area to launch the drone? Did you launch from the Klondike Highway or did you snowmobile up Bennett Lake?

I live just outside Carcross. We go snowmobiling up the passes (White Pass and Haines Summit) regularly. To get to the area I launched the drone from is real easy. You stop/park across the grader station/ Canada Customs on a big parking lot plowed out beside the highway. Right next to the grader station yard is a gravel pit road plowed out and from there you follow a skidoo trail up into a valley of a few lakes and beyond at the end of this small valley you reach a saddle overlooking Crater Lake and the Chilkoot Pass. The image I posted is part of a panorama (that I cropped) but I was standing just outside the frame to the left (if that makes any sense?) .The drone was actually hovering below the point I was at and about a mile away over Crater Lake to take the pano.
I would say it's maybe a 6 mile walk from the parking lot to the viewpoint. With our skidoos we can actually go right down the slope onto Crater Lake and then up to the top of the Golden Stairs. I did not do that last weekend because I did not have one of my hotshot sons along, I send them down this slope first because they a much more agile on a sled. There is no stopping once you're going down and you have to navigate around rocks and cliffs... Anyhow, it's also doable with skis or snowshoes especially this time of year and you don't need any permits or anything as far as I know.
BTW, nice to see you on this forum here. I have read many of your posts over on dpreview especially at digital video talk. I have lots to lean and hope the forums here can help me and everyone along the way.
