I think, that it would be very usefull, if entering dprevived (no matter if logged in or not) and the default view of any thread is "collapsed" = there are only essential informations shown like title, contributor, time passed since post and the like).
At the moment, if browsing through long threads with all the texts shown, is a little annoying.

Best wishes and congrats to the admin and moderatord!

    Hello Johannes.

This site is only a week old and still under construction.
No doubt Threaded view and Flat view will eventually be implemented.

I'd love to see the "threaded" view of the forums. The flat view is workable, but very inefficient.

    Let's give this a bump.
Using threaded views for these fora is a no-brainer.
As it stands, I'm losing the will to live, scrolling through piles of largely inane posts until I find one that's worth reading.
Also; and I've said this before, the home page is a nightmare. It's impossible to navigate and looks a mess.
I realise that the site's still new but anyone coming here, not knowing what to expect will soon be looking elsewhere.

I understand your concerns, especially for new-comers.

Yet I believe building everything from scratch, instead of using pre-built forum software, takes time. This is the price to pay for future flexibility and growth. I think it would take at least a few months, not days, to have this forum look fancy.

Firstly, we aren't building everything from scratch, we are using pre-built forum software. The idea that we aren't has been put around by 'competitors', who want to make an advantage of it for themselves. The difference is that we are using an open-source base, with the co-operation of the original developers, so we can customise to our requirements. Those that chose a packaged commercial base can't do that - they get whatever the software supplier decides that they get. This SW has many advanced features, and some that are not so advanced.
With regard to collapsed and threaded view, they are both on our to-do list.
As for what people want, I think in teh main it's an active welcoming community and active discussion. We've got that. In short, it's about the people.

I hope that when threaded views are implemented, they can be made a choice of default that the user can make. Personally, I write this because I vastly prefer flat view and have no use for the other option.

There's no intention to remove flat view.

    Bob,
when you develop the collapsed/thread view, is there any chance of changing titles within a thread. Some of the longer threads go off-topic and it'll be hard to figure out who's discussing what.
    Thanks
