    Greetings,

Thanks to those who have built this site.

I was wondering if a few very similar categories should be combined:

    • Landscape and Travel Photography and Trip/Location/Photo Walk talk
    • Astrophotography and Lowlight/ Night Photography

The differences between the categories is modest and there is substantial overlap. This makes sense as this forum does not have the many thousands of people (yet!) that the original DPReview had.

At the moment we're being reactive with respect to categories. At some time we need to have a discussion about tidying up.

I was asked to add a trip/location category as the originator felt that it didn't fit within landscapes. As someone who does landscapes a lot and also did a Photo walk with Fuji, (where I learned quite a lot), I can see why they should be separate.

I was specifically asked to separate out night and astro photography. And, as I went to a talk last night on both topics, I can see why they should be separate (in my opinion). Completely different techniques and processing methods.

I am not averse to combinging categories, but let's give the site time to settle down and see how it goes.

Feel free to respond to this reply. I'm happy to consider alternatives to anything.

    Alan

Perhaps getting ahead of things, I’m finding the structure of categories and sub-categories very helpful, as I can go to the category and see the sub-category ID for each thread ( though some are a bit cryptic ). I suggest we all need to live with that structure for a bit and think how it might best be exploited in any re-structuring. For example, why not adopt the idea from Fuji and MFT of a specific brand based image sub-category?
