It's been a good last few weekends at the Mormon Lake Overlook. The abundance of water has attracted a large population of waterfowl and the usual hangers-on that accompany them. I've seen eagles, red-tailed and rough-legged hawks, peregrine falcons, American kestrels, and turkey vultures. Added to this menagerie have been a few western meadowlarks, loggerhead shrikes, and spotted towhees. What a difference a lake that's actually filled with water makes.

In this photo, an immature bald eagle glides effortlessly through the northern Arizona sky on patrol at Mormon Lake. [Nikon D500 w/ Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E VR at 500mm, f/5.6, 1/1600, ISO 400]

That is gorgeous! Detail doesn't get much better than that.

Excellent shot! Water levels can make a huge difference.
