It is a fantastic camera....bought mine used cheap last year for fun, and it's become my favorite camera. It gets me closest to the feeling I got back in my film days, and since I usually just buy old AF/AF-D Nikkors with aperture rings it can tag team with the F3HP pretty seamlessly. ;)

I sold mine years ago, but just recently purchased a used one in great condition. Simply a wonderful camera to work with.

Hello, I am a Nikon D700 user too. I bought mine new in 2010 and still use it on and off. It continues to take fantastic pictures. I mainly use it with my collection of Nikkor AIS lenses, which I still have from my film days (Nikon F100 and FM3a). I also have a Nikon D7200, which I no longer use as my eyesight is slightly worse than the in-body diopter adjustment and you have the choice between an eyecup OR a correction lens but not both (in my view a basic design error but I checked with Nikon...). My main camera is a Lumix GX8 though as I can fit a whole system into a pretty small bag. That is crucial when taking carry-on luggage on flights. In terms of image quality they are all great.
I hope this forum will take off - I rarely ever posted on DPReview but regularly read the discussions. I learnt a lot.

This is my first post here.

I take my D700 everywhere I go. I have it in an older camera bag and take it in the car with me. It's a fun camera to shoot with. I'll be keeping mine until it dies.

This is my first post here.

My D700 was stolen along with everything camera related, a lot. Now only a replacement Z7 and 5 Z lenses but i had to get another 700 with only one lens. For me the D700 only needs that one lens so I am happy again.

If you could only have one lens on your D700 then what would it be?

Sorry to hear that! What do you shoot, so I can try give you the best advice?

I Have replaced the Z7 and now have 5 Z lenses so am quite content at the moment, or i will be when my Z8 arrives. Big Grin.
I only got another D700 for play and to use with the 105DC for portraits and that's the only lens i will get for it. For me the future is in the Z but i liked my D700 and it was cheap so why not, and money wasn't an issue when the insurance paid out 50K. I wasn't seeking advice on lenses just curious what lenses do people use with their D700 now that it is a bit older and so many bodies have come since. These days i mainly use a camera when I travel O/S and as the Z is a lot smaller and lighter than my FX gear was i am not looking back too much. This is especially true as i like to carry 2 bodies and maybe a 3rd lens in a pocket so weight adds up and I am an old bugger that likes to photograph temples in Asia and the buggers seem to like putting them on top of mountains.

Apologies I misread you. For me, one lens with a camera like the D700 I would probably choose a 50mm 1.4D. Why? Well it has no motor to break - and will likely last for a long time beyond most lenses. Secondly, it would be very versatile, and thirdly, I just like the way it draws, and it weighs almost nothing.

    Agreed. I mainly use 3 D series lenses…24, 35 and 50 on the D700.

For not being optically perfect, I still like these lenses because for certain applications I just go on look.
