Hoping this is the right place for this --

I'm trying to stay out of the broken-record arguments, but I will say that one of the saddest things is to see people accuse others of lying or being dishonest in response to them mis-stating facts.

There is a difference between being wrong/mistaken/ignorant and lying/being dishonest. I think most people know that. If people would change their language accordingly, I bet the conversation would be a lot more civil -- and fruitful and beginner-friendly.

I got sucked into a couple of obvious threads, now I just ignore them. The issue came with them being at the top of the threads list constantly. Now I know what's inside them, just ignore them.

Aaron, thanks for the reminder. While it is important to foster an environment in which folks can engage in robust discussions, it's worthwhile to keep in mind that we can disagree without being disagreeable. Treating each other with respect is at the core of that approach.

It was annoying, to go through new posts only to see offtopic and arguing and name calling, but as mentioned, if the numbers of these are under control, hopefully one can skip.

It's also counter productive. And no-one really knows if the other party is lying, they just know what they said is non-factual - but the other party can genuinely believe it to be true.

A good rule, I think, is never to post a sentence that criticizes another poster's character. (Historical figures such as Henry VIII are fair game.)
