Digital camera batteries in the UK

For all of you guys and gals in the UK, I have recently purchased brand new batteries and chargers for my old Canon EOS 300D, 350D, and G7 from DuracellDirect.

DuracellDirect is operated by the Duracell licensee, PSA Parts Ltd.

In a nutshell, the prices and batteries are great and much cheaper than the so-called “Duracell” store on Amazon.
The Black Friday deal of three for two is long gone, but it’s now buy one, get one half price.

Search by camera make and model or your battery part number. Their “new” part numbers can be confusing, and some of their different part numbers cover the same OEM battery!

Batteries are new, packaging is new, very few images online!

Over the past 20 years or so, the mAh rating for many of these Li-Ion (lithium-ion) batteries has increased due to manufacturing and technological advancements.
There is no need to deep-cycle new Li-Ion batteries. I charge to full and then an extra hour for the first time. Then a half dozen or so regular charges, when low, will bring them up to speed.
 Cold temperatures are rough on batteries; keep and charge them somewhere warm.

When traveling by air, it’s good practice to cover the contacts of your carry-on Li-Ion batteries with electrical tape.
Some airlines can be "funny." lol

Thanks for the link, I buy different third party batteries, I find them OK and much cheaper than originals. These can a reliable alternative from a reputable manufacturer.

For a collector or owner of old “vintage” digital cameras, this is indeed good news.

I really don’t want to go on too much more about this, but when my local store tried to charge me £30.00 for a single Canon BP-511 7.4V 1400 mAh Duracell battery, I was amazed to find that PSA Parts Ltd. would ship me two BP-511 7.4V 1600 mAh batteries for £24.00

Also, my package arrived from SW19 London to my doorstep within 36 hours, and I live in the UK offshore, many hundreds of miles from the capital.

These current Duracell branded batteries are manufactured in China, most likely in one of the major Chinese lithium-ion plants, of which there are quite a few.

Yes, I have been supporting my local bricks-and-mortar camera store for decades, but not on this occasion. lol

There is thread in DPR, some people are vehemenlty against third party batteries. I dont know but it made me scared about them .

The alarmists have volume and sway the debate. There are many, many who have used 3rd party batteries successfully with no issues.

The gotchas for me are, do not buy unknown brands or from unknown sites shipping from HK or China. Don't leave a fully charged battery in your camera for very long - If you are not going to use it for a while leave it half charged. Keep your eye on them for swelling - not hard to notice.

I would prefer to use OEM batteries too but the prices are a rip off. My BLC12E panasonic weighs about the same as a single AA, yet retails for about AUD$120. I can buy a reputable Li-Ion AA for $6.

I always buy an extra oem battery when I buy my camera(s) because I am not 100% confident with 3rd party bats. I also purchase a couple of 3rd party batteries to be used only for the amount of time it takes my Canon battery to recharge-- then the 3rd party bats come out. They are just like a spare tire. Never more than a couple of hours - tops. They are Wasabi batteries and I have never had an issue using them in this fashion.
