The canal is really a vital drainage channel and very brackish. So I was surprised to see an Australasian grebe (in non-breeding plumage).
A local sports field backs onto one side of the canal and a pair of ospreys like to roost on one of the light towers. But the two must have had a tiff - one was sat looking grumpy about 50m away.
The other was at home enjoying a snack.
The white-faced heron also found a snack.
I don't think I would eat anything out of that canal.
At home the Azaleas are flowering.
But the leaf bugs are getting out of control. The usual soapy water trick hasn't worked so I will have to give them a dose of Yates Advanced bug killer.
