I expect someone is negotiating and we won't know the details. Maybe ever, but details to tend to leak out once the deal has been finalized. In the meantime, I'll continue on there as I have for the past 23 years and not be concerned about exactly what day it goes away or doesn't.
And of course it will change. It has always changed. And that won't change.
For example: We used to talk about all makes and models of ILC digital cameras in the Pro Digital Talk forum....because all such things were for professionals and not amateurs. That changed quite early on, but if anyone wants they can go back to the beginning in that forum and see for yourself.
DP Review should charge $10 per person....they would make a mint. Or yes, as someone said, some porn company should step in and make digital porn (DP) as they would make a ton of money hands over.
I too am fascinated with the obsession with the DP site.....It was just a site and many times it was 'petty', 'offensive', 'attacking' , clique-ish', and 'loaded with postcard type images people take' ... Often times I found it best to vacate for months at a time to catch my breath and catch my breath.
I enjoyed some of it though as , just like on this site....one could ask questions and someone would reply..... a good place to know about a camera/lens when I was looking at buying.... gaining knowledge about photography subjects...and while it was centered on digital, there was still quite a bit on film within that site as well. So, it had great points too, but to the point of obsession?
The photo gear I'm most interested in is the medium format stuff. Right now there are two threads posted to in the past 24 hours. Here.
There are eight threads posted to over there.
This site is the most active of three DP Review Replacement sites I have been following. But DP Review is still the most active. Ever though it's well past the published expiration date.
I don't know about any of the other forums. I shall keep on both here and there. But here, I head to the Threads list a couple times a day and so wind up eyeballing different things here than I do there.
Are you honestly saying that time spent talking lenses & technicalities on an interwebz forum is as important as that spent in a marriage/relationship?
Things seem to be quite clear right now.
The site will/may be sold to a new owner.
The new Owner will/may announce that the forum will stay open.(Everything else would be crazy)
But what will happen when the dust has settled?
Will be interesting to see with company/concept is behind the new Owner.
With Image-Resource gone lately, it might be some other player taking opportunity to become number One.
But will the forum last for long.
Time will tell, but from my view thing often get to move down-way with new owners.
We just have to wait until the new owner is unvieled
You are the one who made the comparison first. Somehow discussing DPR anonymously in a thread about DPR on a forum whose name and logo references DPR makes you think of "jilted partners who have never gotten over their first boyfriend/girlfriend".
