Hey everyone--I hope some DPR(eview) Refugees make their way over here. I thought this could be an easy way to drop in and say hello.

My name is Chris, I'm a music teacher, and I have been shooting on my a6500 since last year. I've learned a ton from your posts and images since then, and I hope to keep learning from them over here on DPR(evived)!

Was disappointed when DPR announced it was shutting down (username was math guy), so I'm glad to see this site up and running. I've been shooting with a Sony A6400 since 2020. Before that I used Pentax.
I teach high school math in Pennsylvania. Other hobbies besides photography include traveling, cycling, hiking, and skiing.

    Hi Chris,
    Looks like the number of folk registered here is rapidly climbing, so the DPR community may largely "rebuild itself" over the next week or two. I'm already seeing a few familiar faces, which is reassuring! : }

Hello, fellow Dpreviewers. Made my way over here on the weekend but hadn't been back to look around at the progress - membership is definitely growing fast. I'm hopeful this could eventually become a forum just like Dpreview's forums - same structure, categories, and activity - maybe minus some of the silly trolling that sometimes filled up over there.

    For those that don't know me, I was a Dpreview member since 2003, I work in the financial and insurance industry, been a Sony shooter since 1997 (FD91, followed by F717, H1, H5, DSLR-A300, DSLR A550, DSLR-A580, DSLT-A68, NEX3, NEX5N, A6000, A6300, and currently A6600.

My primary and favorite photography is wildlife, plus travel, landscape, and night long-exposure shooting. I'll be sporadically checking in with this site as it progresses, and once Dpreview closes for good, may try some photo threads here and see how it goes.

    Hi there!

I've migrated over from DPReview. Member since 2017. I switched from big canon FF gear when the a6500 was released in an effort to downsize. I Switched to an a 6400 when it was released. I've been very happy and have no plans to return to FF. Unfortunately my entire gear bag was recently stolen while on vacation in Hawaii. Thankfully, insurance Will cover. I've been very happy with my lens collection so will not make any changes in that respect. I am, however, considering holding out to see if I knew APSC camera will be released this year. That said, I might get antsy and just pick up an a6600. Anyhoo, I hope this site gets up and running. I'l like to be able to change the screen to black mode.

Good to see new and familiar faces. Hope this site will succeed (unless a miracle happens and DPR gets somehow "revived").

I have been taking photos for nearly 50 years, and still learn new things every day, and have fun doing so.

My first camera was a Kodak Brownie 127 -- almost 75 years ago. My first real photo mentor was a man who did recon. photos in Europe during WWII - he taught me on a 4x5 Graflex. My interest in cameras/photography was revived when digital imaging became popular - about the same time that I retired.

Glad to be hear ... good to see some familiar names.

    Hi guys,

    Another shell-shocked DPR user here.

I was a member since 2012 and used to be very active there but got married, my GAS was strangled, changed phone and laptop, forgot my password and decided I spent too much time on that forum anyway.
Since then, I've still checked the forum pretty much daily and was gutted when the closure was announced.

I switched to Sony mirrorless when the NEX5-r was announced. Loved it, great little workhorse, I never missed the evf. I then jumped to the A6000 and could never live without the evf. I now shoot the A6500 with the A5100 as backup. I never miss the evf on the A5100. Man, photography is confusing and simple at the same time.
I live in wonderful Copenhagen, Denmark and although it's a very photogenic city, these days, the camera only comes out on holidays.

I'm looking forward to seeing this new community grow and thrive, as I have benefited a lot from others on DPR throughout the years.

Another refugee from DPR which I joined in 2019. Shot various digital fixed lens over the years (Canon, Casio, Nikon) before abandoning that style camera completely and opting for interchangeable lens cameras (ILC), all Nikons (D3400, D7500, D500, Z50). After a while, added a couple of Panasonic bridge cameras (FZ1000 II, FZ300) because they had some features similar to my Nikons, particularly the ability to configure them for BBF. Recently, I sold the FZ1000 II and picked up a lightly used RX10 IV at a good price. The fact that it has phase detection autofocus was the main reason for the acquisition.

Same here, migrating over. Been shooting for decades beginning back in the film age. Still shoot film with my trusty Nikons but like everyone else, mostly shoot digital.

I hope that a couple the moderators at DPreview who take themselves entirely too seriously along with their "hall monitor" authoritarian attitudes are not installed as moderators over here.

    Hi Terry,
    Nice to see you here!

From what I can gather, most of the more "heavy handed" mods from DPR have signed on as mods at a different (competing) site and AFAICT most of them don't even have accounts here.

By contrast, the admins here seem to want a more relaxed and collegial approach, and so far that seems to be embraced by the majority of people posting here. I guess it will be a while before things settle down and the overall tenor of the site becomes clear. But it seems to be heading in a good direction.

Hi. On DPReview, I was LongTimeNikonUser, but the registration software limited the length of my UserID.

Looking forward to this site becoming THE site for second edition of DPReview.

I joined dpr in 2004. My userid was and is again Alfred. I am an amateur photographer. I started a long time ago with b&w film, learning to guess the exposure needed. Currently my most used camera is an A7RIII. I like those new Sony cameras also for their moderate size, giving me back some of the feel of my old photographic companion, the Minolta SRT101. Sporadically I still use film, anything from 110 to 6x7. I am looking forward again to friendly and instructive exchanges.
So I am starting with quick test to see whether I can insert a picture.
The photo below of Zurich, Switzerland I took a couple of hours ago:

    Hi
At DPReview I was 'Son Of Mustang Ford', but here I'm not allowed gaps and it just looks wrong so I decided to go with my first name + surname initial. At least I won't get told off for driving an unsuitable car on European roads as I once was (for the record, 'Son Of...' is a song title, I drive a Fiat Punto - my other car is a Panda).
I've been on DPR since 2011 and still haven't learnt that sarcasm doesn't work on the internet. I currently use a Nex 5n with various Sony lenses (but mainly the FE85 F1.8 and the 11mm f1.8), sometimes I use my old Pentax SLR lenses, or my Pentax Auto 110 lenses. Once in a blue moon I will succumb to temptation and drop a roll of film in to my 80s vintage Pentax LX, I might even use it.
Oh yeah, I'm in the UK.

    Cheers, C
