I have to say I see where JustUs7 is coming from. I'm certainly a "beginner" in photographer terms, and good information/advice is welcome and appreciated, but I do find one poster comes across as what my youthful self would have called a big-head, more interested in showing how clever he is than genuinely helping people. That shouldn't detract from the usefulness of the forum overall, however, where plenty of people are doing a very decent job of imparting such information.

You'd wonder why it would satisfy any 'big head' to post under an pseudonym on an obscure camera forum. I'm also wondering why you'd think that people trying to share knowledge are 'big heads'. And even if he is more interested in showing how clever he is, if he is by that means helping people, what is the problem?

Yep, looks like one tired and obviously frustrated soon to be ex-dpreview moderator. But he's got a new 'job' at dprforum.

As long as the Gestapo doesn't seek refuge here, I'm happy.

Respectfully, bobn2, I think there are many of you that have so much knowledge, you have forgotten what it is to be a beginner and what questions beginners have and how overwhelming some of the info that is posted as beginner info would be.

I teach fundamentals of accounting and intermediate accounting at a local university. Trust me, there’s just a whole lot we don’t get into in fundamentals. Sometimes I’ll get on a bit of a tangent that goes deeper in fundamentals and I can see the students glaze over and start getting lost and even intimidated. I remember which one I’m teaching and tell them they don’t have to know that yet. Just stuff to look forward to. They all look very relieved and we get back on point.

I know they say, “Those who can’t do, teach.” But I’m guessing the opposite is true, “Those who do, can’t teach.”

Well it happened all the time on the DPR forums.

I guess it comes across in the tone of the message?

Exactly. The fact that a number of us get the same impression is quite telling, I think.

Can you post links to any of the posts you are referring to that contain inaccurate information?

Otherwise those posts can only be helpful, can they not?

It’s not about inaccurate or accurate information. Water is good for me. But nobody wants to drink from a firehouse.

I can give first year accounting students all kinds of accurate information that would not be the least bit beneficial in their educational journey. They wouldn’t have the foundation to make it useful nor the capacity to understand how to apply it yet.

Ok, then can you post a link to any of the posts you refer to that would not be the least bit beneficial in a beginner photographer's journey?

No point. You won’t agree because you don’t see it.

Liam Gallagher can provide accurate information about life in a famous band, but he still comes across as an arrogant, obnoxious prick.

Well, if you guys are afraid to post links then you are just trolling or just making things up.

I'm not 'afraid' to do anything of the sort, it's a question of being too polite to want to make it personal. It's not difficult to spot the one poster here who's tone consistently suggests he believes he's God's gift to this forum, photography and the human race in general.

If it were me, I’d basically just cite every “beginner” post in the beginner forum that’s a self contained Q&A involving more than three paragraphs that wasn’t asked by a beginner.

I’d delete the whole lot of them and put a sticky with an invitation to beginners to ask their questions in this forum. Then I’d let it rest until beginners actually start asking.

I’d move the technical debates to a technical forum.

You can waffle on as much you like but if you keep running away from posting links to support your opinions then I have no reason to take them seriously.

It's not so much that users voted with their feet...the decision is already made for us. It's inevitable now; Amazon isn't going to magically reverse the decision.
