Carrying on with Arvo's Fun Editing Thread - #3 in the series
General rules most of which will look familiar by now, with a few modifications:

    • a previous round winner presents a busy or just not so interesting image, having at least some potential for different crops or visions
    • anyone (except author of original image) can edit the presented image, up to three distinct edits in separate posts are permitted
    • all edits must be based on original image, not on another people's edits (of course borrowing ideas would not be a problem)
    • the edited version gathering most likes within a week or so, wins and its author will start next round
    • all 'normal' adjustments (brightness, colors, curves etc) are permitted (both local and global ones)
    • all geometric adjustments (perspective, cropping etc) are permitted
    • artistic effects (brushes, textures etc) are allowed
    • no object addition or replacement is allowed, non-essential objects may however be removed, and parts of the original image can be "moved" to a different position in the image.
    • generative AI must not be used
    • Short explanations about your editing intentions are encouraged, but not required.
    • Once the deadline for images has been reached, no new image versions will be accepted. Questions and (polite) discussions of techniques are welcome, so that we can learn from one another how certain edits were achieved.
    • On the closing day for voting, if there is a draw in the number of likes for two or more edits, then the person that posted the original image will decide the winner.

About this photo: I shot this a couple of years ago in a local swamp that's one of my favorite haunts in any season. Mississippi has a mostly flat landscape with few features to commend it for photography, so creativity in shooting and editing is essential. Welcome to my world!

Get your Images posted by Sept. 25. Vote whenever you want. Voting will be extended a couple of days after the image submission deadline for those who would prefer to vote after everything is posted. I'll post a reminder in this thread.

    _1280438.jpg

And for those who want the best possible file to start with here's a drop box link for the raw file. www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ygosl41pg7tvtr8z35xv0/_1280438.orf?rlkey=07df4dqsokq10syxx7xqndf99&dl=0 I recommend it if you have something that'll read an ORF. Since I use an Olympus m43 camera, even the raw files present challenges with noise and details.

    Hi Minniev,
    I like your swamp image!
The way you took it provides for a lot of potential in the pp phase, especially when starting with the RAW.
It’s quite a mystical atmosphere with that mist. It works nicely as a good separator and lets the light be suspended magically in the air in the background. I can see why you like it there!
Here’s a first editing attempt, giving more of a “sun just beginning to set” feeling with the light falling right onto that golden pool, and your eyes are taken down the path to meet it there.

    Technical part,…
-Edited with ACDSee ultimate 2023 from RAW
-Cropped a bit from left and right to make it square and so concentrate more on that golden pool of light.
-Changed the white balance slightly and added more brightness to the warmer colours
-Recovered the blown highlights and removed a bit of chromatic aberration in the twigs at the top
-A bit of local dodge and burn here and there.
    -Removed the flare
-Removed some noise and sharpend a bit

as usual, best viewed in full res

Deleted - I would have preferred to submit suggested edit after voting closed but it would have been deleted anyway as it is not allowed.

The red thing on the ground is a bit of a distraction. The picture would be better in my opinion if this were cloned out.

I thought about removing it but felt it was part of the image given the direct sun.

I love this picture. But for me, I wanted to bring out the bridge and lake so, I've cropped it down. Also, it appealed to me with more of a vintage look to bring out the moodiness of the occasion. This is the result:

Another substantial crop to bring specific part of scene into attention. From jpeg, some artefacts are visible. Border added to separate image from forum backgound.

My attempt. Used bunch of Nik 7 Color Efex filters:
    Sunlight
    Glamour glow
    Graduated neutral filter
    Tonal contrast
    Reflector efex
then cropped little bit and got rid of disturbing red glare. That's it.
