    Continuing the image editing thread, 32nd issue.

    General rules:

    • A previous round winner presents a busy or just not so interesting image, having at least some potential for different crops or visions.
    • Anyone (except author of original image) can edit the presented image, up to three distinct edits in separate posts are permitted.
    • All edits must be based on original image, not on another people's edits (of course borrowing ideas would not be a problem).
    • Short explanations about your editing intentions and/or techniques are encouraged, but not required.

    Once the deadline for images has been reached, no new image versions will be accepted. Questions and (polite) discussions of techniques are welcome, so that we can learn from one another how certain edits were achieved.
    The edited version gathering most likes wins and its author will start next round, unless they would prefer to pass the torch to someone else.
    On the closing day for voting, if there is a draw in the number of likes for two or more edits, then the person that posted the original image will decide the winner from the the photos receiving the most votes.

    Editing rules:

    • All "normal" adjustments (brightness, colours, curves etc) are permitted (both local and global ones).
    • All geometric adjustments (perspective, cropping etc) are permitted.
    • Artistic effects (brushes, textures etc) are allowed.
    • No additions or replacements may be made to the main subject matter of the image; non-essential objects may be removed, and parts of the original image can be "moved" to a different position in the image. Sky replacements are OK unless the sky is the main subject..
    • Generative AI must not be used.

    Timing:
    Get your images posted by June 20. As always, you can vote during the entire contest plus one day after the image submission deadline. I'll post reminders.

    The photo:
    Attached shot is taken in Gennadi, Rhodes. My camera didn't want to record warmer, early evening light - maybe it didn't trust its internal clock (which was wrong anyway - not adjusted to DST), maybe it just misread the scene (the houses are white, after all).
    You don't have to use my hints either :)
    You can find the SOOC jpg image below and here’s the link to the RAW image (Fuji x100v)

    Thanks Arvo, a very interesting challenge.

    So, my first thought was to straighten the verticals. The, bring out the white buildings and crop out the boring stuff at the bottom. Finally, I added a tint of blue to the sky.

    This is the result:

    But then, I thought it would be better as a B&W image but with the red tee-shirt left. Not sure about this, but it's worth a go.

    An old film emulation filter in NIK, then color toning and adjustments in PS, then removed a few distractions for simplification purposes, and a flimish border.

    I,like everything except the removal of the foreground, which for me gives perspective.

    Art filter in an old outdated Topaz product that does not work properly anymore. If I can coax it to open I am surprised at what I get. Once it gave me its surprise edit, I took it into Photoshop Beta and continued to tinker with it.

    I warmed it up about as far as I felt it wanted to go, cropped it tight enough to better feature the couple and eliminate some distraction, but tried to keep it wide enough to maintain the original perspective. Basically just edited it to convey a warm, luminous late day scene that looks as natural as possible. Some negative exposure compensation would have offered some alternate options for the sky - really too blown to do anything worthwhile with it in its original blue color. IMO.

    Used DxO 6. Horizon, crop, denoise, pulled highlights, and adjusted the colors.

    Went for something I would have wanted, and I'm partial to shooting square. For the crop I set the pole at the end center, pole at the right 1/3, and centered the couple on the bottom 1/3. That anchored the image well.

    Colors were adjusted first via white balance, then just a little HSL. Highlights were pulled back as far as I could go since the sky was blown out. I tried to balance pulling detail out with keeping a good color palette, rather than going for exactly what I think it would have looked like.

    We have the winner (by a large margin) - @CobaltFire with his very natural looking version.
    Congratulations! - and now you have to host next round of our little context :)

    Few comments, if permitted :)

    @AlanSh
    For me your second version (B&W + red) looked best (maybe because I personally often process images this way).
    Maybe it would be even better to find some other coloured details and left them in color - or maybe not; houses in B&W are just perfect.
    I will try your approach myself.

    @in2lapland
    Very different (aged) vision, making the couple clear main subject.
    As it often happens, in original image there were multiple competing themes (light, street, people) - you managed to concentrate focus on single theme.

    @minniev
    Another aged look, this time pretty colorful. Reverse vignette, added by old film simulation, creates interesting effect and concentrates attention to darker centre - quite unusual, but works very well.

    @AlainCh2
    The first, almost uncropped version was one of my favourites :) Clear idea ("Sunset Time (maybe) Raining Later"), executed perfectly.
    Second, cropped version shifts focus to the couple, but loses part of general atmosphere.

    @minniev
    Yet another aged look, most likely inentionally overprocessed. Maybe a bit cyanish, but very interesting nevertheless :)

    @ErikWithaK
    Very realistic processing, amplifying whiteness of the city and bringing main actors out. Another favourite for me :)

    @minniev
    Totally film-like B&W conversion, a little aged, what makes it even more film-like. B&W usually shifts scene focus, this time from people to narrowing street - the way up.

    @CobaltFire
    The most natural result of the entire thread; relatively darker, but very well balanced and expressing evening scene perfectly. As always, it is hard to comment on winning entry - it just works :)

    @Greg
    Although not posted within competition and thereby not ranked, this is one of the rare (and really interesting) artistic versions here (most users try to just process images, not to create something unique).
    I would like to see more such artistic visions in next competitons!

    Just for comparison I'll post my personal PP result too. Based on ideas above I may try to re-process it differently in some future, not now :)

    Ooooouch!

    Didn't think about a 6x6 [medium format] vision!!!
    [I've posted only Vertical and panorama :-( ]

    @CobaltFire, a great "thanks" and a very beautiful vision !!

    ( I'll keep that in mind also for my pics!! )
