Continuing the image editing thread, 71st issue.

    General rules:

♦ A previous round winner presents a busy or just not so interesting image, having at least some potential for different crops or visions.
♦ Anyone (except author of original image) can edit the presented image, up to three distinct edits in separate posts are permitted.
♦ All edits must be based on original image, not on another people's edits (of course borrowing ideas would not be a problem).
♦ Short explanations about your editing intentions and/or techniques are encouraged, but not required.

Once the deadline for images has been reached, no new image versions will be accepted. Questions and (polite) discussions of techniques are welcome, so that we can learn from one another how certain edits were achieved.
The edited version gathering most likes wins and its author will start next round, unless they would prefer to pass the torch to someone else.
On the closing day for voting, if there is a draw in the number of likes for two or more edits, then the person that posted the original image will decide the winner from the the photos receiving the most votes.

    Editing rules:

♦ All "normal" adjustments (brightness, colours, curves etc) are permitted (both local and global ones).
♦ All geometric adjustments (perspective, cropping etc) are permitted.
♦ Artistic effects (brushes, textures etc) are allowed.
♦ No additions or replacements may be made to the main subject matter of the image; non-essential objects may be removed, and parts of the original image can be "moved" to a different position in the image. Sky replacements are OK unless the sky is the main subject..
♦ Generative AI must not be used.

    Timing:
Get your images posted by June 18th. As always, you can vote during the entire contest plus one day after the image submission deadline. I'll post reminders.

    And the image:
I ran across this old 1860's era home while walking around Portland Maine. Open to the public and still contains all its original period furnishings. It's a wonky image as it was shot at very close range with a wide angle lens to avoid the overhead electrical lines. Extra points to anyone who can improve the distracting asymmetrical geometry along the bottom. High dynamic range, a weird perspective, and a fore and aft white balance conflict all present challenges for a "natural" looking edit. but feel free to be creative if that's your inclination. Good luck.

I shoot RAW only so, as there's no SOOC image, this was a quick tweak to squeeze all the image detail into a full-size editable jpeg...

    Here's my first try.

Lightened it up, made the sky a bit more blue, straightened it and took the pigeon off.

I love this picture. There's so much in it.

So, a gritty B&W image with a bit of vignetting.

In the OP it is written to post images by June 11th. Is it correct? It is already June 12th.

Yeah, sorry, I screwed that up, it should be June 18 (corrected).

Isn’t it odd that the precise correction of converging verticals looks almost as “wrong” as no correction? Is there a case for leaving a bit of convergence to allow for the brain’s expectation?

    Best wishes
    A

Yeah, if you try to correct a building shot from a ground level perspective, the top of the building will look stretched in a far more exaggerated way than the bottom. If it’s obvious that you’re looking up at a building, there should always be some degree of converging verticals, IMO. That’s not to say that a bit of correction won’t make for a better looking image, but there is a point where things start to get funky. It’s really best to keep your camera as level as possible with wide angle lenses to minimize the need for correction (and sometimes cropping out the resulting extra foreground in post). I didn’t have that option here as there was a massive tangle of wires overhead and I couldn’t back up any further.

I kind of went with a more natural look. Except for the perspective distortion. I really quite like UWA distortion.
    Anyway, darktable edit

    And the winner is...

Alan, with his moody monochrome rendering. Nice job, Alan. The geometry looks a wee overcorrected to my eye, but I like the overall result very much...

    t20s9570-1-1-2-s.jpg

Great submissions from everyone this week, but I would like to extend a special shout out to 3DGunner for my favorite color effort, and Arvo too for the weirdest edit which I also find strangely appealing. You're up next, Alan.

My original edit was along a similar vein as Alan's, but a bit less spooky...

    T20S9570-IridientEdit-2 edit.jpg

It was very dark/high DR inside and difficult to photograph, but here's the central staircase for those curious about the interior space...
