Very nice subject and lines but maybe it's the way my eyes are wired to my brain but I find the darkish arch across the top of the scene too over-powering and so throwing the image way out of "balance".

I think cropping out the arch or making it much lighter in the b&w conversion while leaving the rest the same in order for the arch to blend more into the background (which is the subject for me) would make it a much better final image.

The left and right ends of the escalators at the bottom would also provide a more balanced and compelling scene if they matched which they don't at the moment. Cropping would improve that.

If you like I can post a crop showing what would work better for my eyes and brain.

Anyway, just some food for thought and just my opinion.

A super photo. Dont change a thing!

I always marvel at the depth of field the lens on the Q series achieves at f/1.7. what did you actually focus on?

Depth of field is mainly determined by the sensor size, subject/focus distance, aperture and focal length, regardless of the camera.

I believe the Leica Q2 has a full frame sensor. So for any full frame sensor with aperture set to f/1.7 and the focus distance set to 20m (guessing to be about the person on the 2nd escalator from the left) then the DOF is from ~11m in front of the person to infinity behind the person.

If the focus point was more than 20m then the DOF for a full frame sensor would be even larger. Eg, if the focus distance was 30m then the DOF would be ~19m in front of the focus point to infinity at the back.

Who asked you for that gratuitous analysis?

I assume it is just a part of your childish plan to irritate as many grown ups as possible.

These threads are not one on one conversations and both members and non members new to photography and not familiar with the concept of depth of field and what affects it could stumble across this thread via a google search or similar.

It could help them and I see nothing wrong with that. If you see anything wrong with that then feel free to take it up with the admin here because I am no more accountable to you than you are to me 😃

If your question to Daneland was intended to be private and one on one then PM's are probably more appropriate and not public forums and threads where any member is free to reply.

If you are annoyed by my post then you are the one being childish here 😉

Thanks for the suggestion but I am happy with the arch. I like the contrast that it gives in terms of tonality and shape.
