Escalating prices for X100V and XE4

I suppose it's Economics 101, but the e-Bay prices for the X100v and XE4 - the very few that are posted - are leaping up, with both now seeking and getting bids well in excess of their original new prices. There's currently one X100v with bidding currently at GBP1400 and an XE4 following in its footsteps at USD1270. My budget has caused me to look at used XE3 prices and they have followed suit, with mint ones now seeking and selling between USD700-800. Almost back to the new price when the model is five years old.... The allure is to use the lenses I already have on a very small body. However, one would have to ponder whether paying such high prices for a used RF styled 24mpx camera is worth it when one can get a brand new 24mpx RF styled A7C (with IBIS, sealing and a built-in grip) for similar money.... I don't know what supply chain issues Fuji still faces, but they must be ruing the fact they have no small-bodied models available to sell.

Fujifilm claims that they’ve stepped up production on the X100V. It’s not that they don’t have any to sell. It’s that demand still outstrips supply.

I'm not so sure... There are several well known Australian dealers still listing them as out of stock with no ETA for next delivery. There are a few grey-marketeers professing to have small numbers and extorting a small fortune for them, eg AUD $3000+ for an X100v. If Fuji are indeed supplying them, perhaps a question is -'Who's getting them?" R

Fuji prices across the board seem pretty nuts at the moment, particularly for any rangefinder-like models. I’ve noticed MPB in the uk are now trying to charge £460+ for not-particularly-great condition X-Pro1’s that would have been £3-350 last year, and there are similar or bigger hikes for the X-pro2 and 3 also.

I bought my (current) X-Pro3 from a grey market seller in December and could easily sell it on for a fat profit now.. only problem is I’d have to pay through the nose for any replacement.

I've considered selling mine to replace it with something smaller, like a Richo GR3, but each time I hold the camera I just can't find myself to part with it. It's a seller's market for sure now. The prices are crazy and I would personally not buy a x100v or similar camera at the current asking price.

Demand is larger than supply. As long as there are people willing to pay the prices that sellers ask, prices will not go down. That, or Fuji manages to restock the cameras.

I have the same issue, I feel a bit trapped by the X-Pro line as there’s nothing else out there that really ticks the same boxes. I could handle a downgrade to an older X-Pro or perhaps even a sideways move to an X100, but of course then I’d still just be paying massively inflated prices. Best to just stick with what I’ve got and be thankful I’m not trying to buy one now.

I confess I haven’t checked with my insider source super recently, but my LCS has been slowly, but steadily, fulfilling orders from a long list. The camera is never listed as “in stock” because each camera that arrives is already spoken for — there are more people waiting than there are available cameras as any given time.

At some point, production will cease to free capacity for a (presumed…rumored…anticipated) successor model. I don’t have a strong position on that being the case now, but it is a possibility.

If you check on eBay prices even for older X100 models, ALL are asking crazy high prices, even the original 12.3mp model is in the US $700-900 ballpark. A friend of mine bought a couple of months ago a new X-E4 with the 27mm f2.8 on Amazon for $1350. I don't believe Fuji can't keep up with demand, at least on BH the X100V is permanently in backorder.

This indicates that neither Fuji nor B&H is able to keep pace with orders. It tells us nothing about production numbers or the number of orders fulfilled.

It's totally weird, simply because some girl on TikTok was seen with a Fuji X100V slung over her shoulder, hence all rangefinder style Fujifilm cameras has sky rocketed in price worldwide. I just tell myself that the camera doesn't matter, it's the person behind the camera that matters. Virtually all modern day digital cameras can take fantastic images. I still use a Nikon D200 and continue to marvel at the quality of the images and especially the deep colour tones and tonal gradation.

Agree. Personally, I would never pay $2000+ for an X100V regardless of how cool it might be. My humble Canon RP+RF IS 35mm f1.8 takes awesome pictures. No need to pay the “Instagram tax”.

For my trip beginning tomorrow I would have liked to obtain an X100V. So my compromise, and not so much of one, was to use my relatively new X-T5 and stick the 27mm pancake on it. A few more mm of focal length is a few steps back more from the subject. What is nice is it easily fits in a waist pack and doesn't feel as if there is anything there.

I was able to buy the x100v from my local camera store by paying for it and waiting for one to come in. I paid $1399 for it.

At some point when the GenZ folks move on to the new thing, ebay prices should trend downward. Apparently the old flip phones and original digital cameras are popular. Go figure.

I have followed some price hikes in the wake of the world wide chip shortage and supply chain issues. The first thing that caught my attention was the inflated prices of used cars and limited availability of some new cars. Later, I noticed price hikes in other areas where the used prices exceeded new retail prices. This is clearly the case with some FujiFilm cameras due to supply not meeting demand.

I was impressed with the X100V and noticed the crazy demand and even crazier used prices. I thought that the X-E4 would be a better alternative for my preferences only to find demand far exceeded supply with inflated costs for used X-E4 cameras. I looked at X-E3 and a number of older FujiFilm cameras and was surprised at the used prices.

So, I remain interested in FujiFilm future releases of these smaller rangefinder style cameras and product availability. Meanwhile, I am enjoying my X-T3 and three FujiFilm lenses.

On March 7, I was put on a waiting list for the X-E4. I said that either the black or silver X-E4 with or without the XF 27mm lens would work.
On April 14, I got a call that a silver X-E4 with the lens kit was available. I snapped it up. It was the regular price.
It was delivered a few days later and I outfitted it with a leather half-case.
I think it was lucky with the timing to get on the list and for them reaching me by phone.

I'll be keeping my X-E4 for its overall great performance and flexibility, not to mention that it appears to be appreciating nicely. 😉

Well here we are, two months from my OP, and check of eBay reveals that the trend of increasing prices is continuing strongly. Like the X100V's, mint-ish XE4s with low miles are also now on offer for more than they sold for when they were last available new. There are a number for around AUD $1700-1800. I've seen one go for AUD $2400. And there's currently one for AUD $2700. My example of the A7C looks even better..... Australia's EOFY sales are on. If one wants a small, RF styled ILC, one can buy a brand new A7C right now, with sealing, IBIS, and a warranty for AUD $1999.
