The top backlight on my DCS 760 doesn't light. The back one does when I turn on the backlight with the power switch. Anyone know whether this one is EL or lamps? Is it a known issue with some generic part to replace, or do I need to get a whole new top right case part?

    Thanks,

According to the F5 Parts List it is EL, the part is 1B998-391, it looks like a replaceable part on the exploded view and shouldn't be too hard to get but EL wears out and it's possibly quite hard to get a working part from a scrap unit.

Although you might be able to use an EL from another unit of the same size or get a custom part cut out and if everything fails you can ultimately make a small acrylic diffuser to use with some small LEDs and have a custom LCD of the colour you want.

Or just live with the backlight not working :/

Also you might want to check for leaky capacitors, if the inverter for the EL uses electrolytics they can leak and cause the inverter to not work and also cause heavy corrosion to the PCB, you might want to research that...

    Hi,

That's my thinking as well. You didn't lose the EL panel, you lost the high voltage power supply to it.
