Hi everyone, I had started a thread on DPR looking for feedback for my focus stacking software named FocusFusion
Beta is available from the Microsoft Store, apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/focusfusionx/9NG6LGTDW8LB, website is www.delphitools.info/focusfusion/
It supports two algorithm: a depth map which is fast and provides good results, and a wavelet one, which only works on low contrast stacks, but can be like magic in the cases where it works :)
Current efforts are mostly on the depth map algorithm, the end goal is to have top quality, and high performance on simple CPUs.
Future efforts will be to look into combining depth map & wavelet approaches, as the wavelet algorithm can reconstruct details in the "halo" areas when transitioning between planes, but whenever contrast is high, it currently suffers from a lot of ugly artifacts.
I have been mostly testing on my Olympus hardware and no dedicated macro lens, so rather smallish stacks with relatively deep depth of field.
With the help of DPR members I was able to test on larger stacks, with shallower DoF, more difficult lighting, etc. which allowed great progress (thanks!), and I am looking for more feedback, both for complex stacks and for UI improvements.
