    An email received from Fringer:

    Hi,
Currently, the EF100-400L II and TC combination doesn’t support AF. It will be fixed by the next firmware update. Please wait for a while. Thanks.

So just a heads up. Because a lens appears on their "compatibility lens" page, it obviously doesn't mean that the autofocus will actually work. In addition, the fact that it is an intermittent fault and the fact that the autofocus did not work on the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM, was igonored.

In addition, I am meant to wait around for some date in the future when they think they might sort it out.............

OK that makes sense as that combo, Canon 100-400 Mk2 + Canon 1.4X extender, is not on Fringer's tested list.

I use the Canon 100-400 Mk2 with both the 1.4X and 2X Fuji extenders, but these do not report so you have to adjust the EXIFs data later. I regularly use the Fuji 1.4X with the Canon 100-400 Mk2, using 560mm @ f/9, occasionally use the 2X extender at 800mm and f/11.

Both are on their list www.fringeradapter.com/canon-ef-to-fujifilm-x
It specifically says ".. only EF 1.4X II / III and EF 2X II / III were tested."

This is a snip from the list:
    EF 100-400/4.5-5.6L IS

    EF 100-400/4.5-5.6L IS II

    EF 200-400/4L IS

    EF 200-400/4L IS + 1.4X

The EF 100-400/4.5-5.6L IS II is listed as compatible. If the lens worked with a Canon TC, then it would be listed with and without the TC the way it's listed for the EF 200-400/4L IS

Well, you know my experience with lenses that are on Fringer's list and the NF-FX adapter. Just because they are 'on the list' doesn't mean that YOUR lens will be compatible. More of a suggestion rather than a set of absolutes.

When you use a camera setup that involves three parties (Fuji, Nikon, Fringer) all of them will claim the leak is in some other part of the boat if there are problems.

    Hi Russ,

Fringer dose not say they are compatible with with Fuji TCs. A number of people including me have experimented with this and have found combinations that work. We have been very open about the way EXIF data reports. Talking with Fringer support about this they explained it's the Fuji lens that recognizes the Fuji TC and dose the EXIF update.

Anytime one uses third part components you take on the responsibility to identify what a problem is. Without question, this can be frustrating. I'm aware that you have had lenses that worked on Nikon bodies yet on with the Fringer adapter on a Fuji body. The Nikon F mount has had a long journey and Nikon has worked hard to make there cameras and lenses work both forward and backward with older and new gear, at least the higher end bodies. Because of this you must consider the generation of both the lens and body when testing for compatibility. It is a pain, even when issues happen with all Nikon gear. This issues you have had are related to this and further testing could identify the issue. This would require access to appropriate Nikon bodies and lens. When I've had issues, I test with friends gear. The other option is to visit a store what will work with you. I'm confident the problems you have experienced can be identified with sufficient testing.
