For me, two major reasons for buying the X-T5
First of all, the more reasonable size of the APS-C compared to the FF and also the dissuasive price of the top-of-the-range Nikon, Canon, and Sony. Paid over $5,000 for a camera, no way!

Yup... me either. I've found stabilization to be pretty much a "must have" given the fact that I do a fair amount of handheld photography, at times in less than optimal light, and in situations where a tripod may not be all that practical. I also don't want to be limited to lenses with OIS... in fact, some of Fujifilm's best lenses are not stabilized (16-55 being my best example of that).

Kind of off-topic, but when I sold my X-T3 for a Canon RP, both my RF 35 IS f1.8 and the RF 24-105 f4-f7.1 IS really made a ton of difference for their specific purpose, which is taking product shots of my wife's jewelry business. I can easily go down to 1/15-1/20 and get sharp results @ 85mm, which means no more tripod and I can work faster and produce more pics per session.

Going back to Maoby’s original post, I agree there is little difference in IQ from cameras even 12-15 years old, like my 5D Classic and those juicy files still surprise me!

Surprised by all the “can’t see the difference” comments, there’s definitely more detail in the XT5 as should be expected, and the colours are slightly shifted too. What’s really surprised me is that I actually slightly prefer the XT5’s colour balance, where I’d usually have said the XP1 was king on that score.

I used the X-Pro1 for years and its easy to get nostalgic about it, but actually we have come a long way, maybe less so in IQ but a lot more in performance and features which, at the end of the day, help you to get the shot. I took some nice pictures on the X-Pro1 but was always aware of the many it missed, too.

Indeed, the X-T5 is really more pleasant to use, it becomes obvious when you use both simultaneously.

I wonder if in some cases “can’t see the difference” is a euphemism for ‘I see a difference, but I don’t have a strong preference one way or the other’. The differences are apparent on my iPad display, even to a casual examiner.

My 1956 Studebaker still gets me to the grocery store and back, why by a new Tesla?

    Exactly.

But a Tesla handles better, it can go faster, it can accelerate faster. So, yes, they both get you from A to B, but it's nicer in a tesla. And so it is with cameras. Sure, the old one takes good pictures, but the new one has extra features or does things subtly differently that adds just that little bit of enjoyment - if that's what you want.
