G1X Mark III better than G5X Mark I?

Hello,
I know from past searches that the topic of the G1X III has always been quite divisive, mostly split into two factions "the lens is slower than the previous G1Xs so it sucks" and "APS-C is larger therefore better", but I would still like some opinions on that matter.
I have the G5X mark I and it is a great and capable little camera (with good looks, too, quite shared with the G1XIII), but more often than not I find its lens to be quite soft, particularly when shooting landscapes, not ruling out some focusing issue too. Its ISO performance is also not very good, where 800 is already quite noisy for my taste.
The battery life is quite equally bad on both models from the specs, and the G1XIII is slightly bulkier, but not by much, with the added benefit of weatherproofing, which is great for a compact, as they are usually very sensitive to everything - a friend is already on his third G7X after getting them through rain -.
I can see that most people who have the G1X III are very satisfied, and I am considering buying a used one.

I have and use the original G1X. I always consider it as a relatively large sensor street photography camera with 28mm (equiv.) f2.8 an a good range but slow zoom as a bonus. I would be very happy if I could afford the MKIII. The waterproof body is itself the best reason.

The thing is that in poor light conditions, you will end up with higher ISO speeds on the G1X mark III than on the G5X and G7X. Yet the lens is little sharper, and in better light conditions, the sensor will pull through and give you better output. Mostly, it is matter of use. If I had no camera, I'd get G1X or EOS M with 22mm lens. I did "make do" with this small prime for a long time, and was happier with this challenge and better image output compared to "less challenge" due to the zoom lens, but being constantly dissatisfied.

There are quite few choices, and one has to choose between these compromises.

My personal opinion is "larger sensor all the way".

Larger sensor is always better... (unless the smaller sensor is paired with a faster lens).

I agree, an M50+22f2 is better than the other 2.
