Hello everyone! With my first post, wanted to share some positive news. We (small team of DPReview members who are also experienced web-devs) were able to preserve all of the camera data, re-build the camera feature search and quick search are now fully functional.

The data/search is now live here digicamfinder.com/

I’ve already made the same post on dpreview, but will summarize it here (going to have to live on both forums until April 10 😄)

Our goal is to take over the data part of DPReview’s legacy and carry it forward.

Why is this important, if the data had already been saved on archive.org?

While Archive.org is great and ensures the data isn’t totally lost, it’s still very hard and slow to access. Also the site’s functionality (like search) often just doesn’t work at all. So our goal is to not only preserve the data, but also to keep it easily accessible.

A few more words on the effort.

Rather than just copying what DPR had in terms of tools and features, we aim to improve and modernize it (i.e. use the latest tech, make things mobile-friendly, fast, add AI, small things like that 😉).

The site is already mobile-friendly and loads quick! Please be patient if you find some bugs, we’re probably working on it as we speak ⚒️.

And finally, but probably most importantly, we made the decision to make all of the underlying data open-source, so that it belongs the the community, and you can contribute, improve, and keep it up-to-date — further reducing the chances that someone 🙄 will try to kill it again. If you want to contribute - welcome to the Open Product Data GitHub.

    What’s coming next:

    • 100% filters migrated from DPR
    • Turning on Lenses
    • Reviews
    • Bug fixes

We'd love to know your thoughts. What features should we build next?

    Best,

    Peter & Daniel

Yippee-ki a… that is awesome work, Peter & Daniel.

After following the link to archive.org,
I’ve just seen all 21-pages of Phil’s review of the Nikon D1X from back in July 2001
All data and sample images preserved.

    Thanks man.

Seems like someone there is trying to stop any effort to curate and keep all legacy information alive after April 10th.

One thing for sure Peter, you will have made a lot of people very happy.
It has been common knowledge this was being worked on for a week or more.

I think that Amazon completely forfeited their copyright by their move so I don't see why the mods should be caring at all anymore.

But regardsless of that, this is a pretty cool move and I hope you will have some means to support new releases apart from Pull Requests.

I was going to ask a question on your post there and noticed Mako2011 locked the thread. I posted a thread asking mods to stop doing that as it isn’t helpful. Mako is a real problem right now over there. Extremely frustrating. He is making it harder for people to get information for when DPReview closes.

Oh we aren't going to just sit wait and rely on PRs :) lots to do ahead, including expanding to other product types 🙃

Oops gone already. Let me try in the m4/3 forum. Hey they can give me a 10 day ban if they want.

Mako2011 is a mod on that forum as well. As I mentioned a minute ago, I posted a thread asking him to stop. See attached images. He deleted in 14 minutes. I will not participate in a forum where he is mod or a member.

Is that guy on a sabotage crusade? Why does he care, maybe he is enjoying his last 10 days as an internet prison guard. I don't get it.
