Re: tying the memberships and user accounts - it's the one thing that is more difficult than it looks. It may be the hardest thing! Good news is that both sides seem to be happy to collaborate, so i'm sure we'll explore linking the two closer together.
In response to some specific questions:
Q. But aren't you afraid there will be legal consequences?
We didn't take any of the amazon property — all of the specs and camera data is published by the manufacturers.
Will you be archiving the forums as well?
No, we plan to leave the forums in the full purview of DPRevived! :)
There's one thing I miss from the old DPR version: The announcement text
That is a good point / idea, noted! Thank you.
I see that you plan reviews, but there are at least two ways of doing that: The old DPR had both professional and user reviews. I don't know your plans, but I think both make sense going forward, but maybe differently: ...
Exactly. We were thinking along the same lines. We already have a link to DPR review, and we'll add video (youtube reviews) next, and will add an ability for the users to add / link more if they find more.
P.S. Looks like I got finally banned on DPR by Mako :) i can't send DMs anymore
...which in practice strongly overlap. In fact, if there's no integration between them, I would expect dprevived to recreate the same products database, if nothing else to implement the My Gear List found at the bottom of every post in dpreview.
Well done, very good work!
I notice that for reviews you are referencing the "Wayback Machine" archives which as you say is very slow at least at the moment.
I have been doing some archive backups of a small selection of the camera reviews saved to archive.ph and in the course of doing this I noticed that some had already been archived via this method.
For example the Z9 full review is archived here: archive.ph/Aluru
Here is the Olympus OM1 review: archive.ph/yIj2c
The Nikon Coolpix P950 review: archive.ph/TDyno
etc!
So I was wondering whether it might be feasible to link to such archives (if they exist) as a potentially faster facility?
Yeah it's available to be saved to via a Microsoft Edge extension called Archive Page. If you have Microsoft Edge then you might find it already installed, otherwise it is available from the Microsoft Edge Addons store:
Here's a screenshot of the displayed details page for this extension as displayed on my computer:
Hope that displays OK. As you can see the details there mention that the app is downloadable from the store.
A lot of people aren't aware that such extensions can be accessed directly from the MS Edge toolbar (via the little icon that looks like a gear cog with a tooth missing).
I hasten to add that although I have quite a strong IT background, one thing I am not is a web expert. Good luck with your endeavour!
DPR will be protecting its intellectual property. They will do this a good deal and I'd suggest a backup plan if they object to dprevived.com as a domain name. I'd avoid a look and feel similar to DPR too.
new name is on the list.
new domain can be setup in no time
but I doubt we will run into problems, if they shut down the domain anyway.
If they sell the domain maybe, dono what amazon is up to.

Hello everyone! With my first post, wanted to share some positive news. We (small team of DPReview members who are also experienced web-devs) were able to preserve all of the camera data, re-build the camera feature search and quick search are now fully functional.
I’ve already made the same post on dpreview, but will summarize it here (going to have to live on both forums until April 10 😄)
Our goal is to take over the data part of DPReview’s legacy and carry it forward.
Why is this important, if the data had already been saved on archive.org?
While Archive.org is great and ensures the data isn’t totally lost, it’s still very hard and slow to access. Also the site’s functionality (like search) often just doesn’t work at all. So our goal is to not only preserve the data, but also to keep it easily accessible.
TO SAVE CONTENT
Tried to post this at DP Review but with likely reduced staff, still awaiting approval:
All thanks to gregalus of SoftArchive for this suggestion:
if small amount pages, no need to install software, I think web extension good enough, I often use this
save-page
to archive (save page to public online database, so we can access it online) there are web.archive.org : chrome extension archive.today
note: archive only save single page, for example: abc.com will only save abc.com not abc.com/a,abc.com/b,
to save entire webpages online you need to input each urls
That's fantastic news! And thank you so much for doing all this. I use both the camera database and the lens database on Dpreview all the time - so its a relief to know that all the information will remain in tact and still accessible. You've saved the day!
