Recently, searching with Google gets you what looks like a ChatGPT response with some suggested links thrown in.

About a year or more ago, I was banned for life from discuss dot pixls dot us for consistently mentioning AI.

Now that Googling is no longer a purely AI-free activity (if it ever was), would mentioning Google results now be frowned upon there? Kind of like - would the provenance of any statement have to be acceptable to their most overbearing Mods?

I believe that most, if not all, members here are capable of viewing/reading AI output appropriately. Therefore, I do hope that the paranoid attitude seen on other sites will not creep in here.

No problems with AI output - if it is marked as such.

Many sites frown upon posting AI answers as poster own ones. Usually it is clear that post is AI generated, but as LLMs advance, in (near) future this may not be so.

Google has been rendered less useful and less trustworthy by the incorporation of AI.

As long as there is attribution on any quote you give, you can use AI. Obviously, if we see "AI" as the author, there's a 75% chance it's wrong 😁

I remember reading recently (can’t remember where) that, on balance AI is 69% accurate. Imagine, for example, the consequences if the purchase documents for your house, or the technical manual for a plane (or any one of a thousand other examples) were only 69% accurate. I must say though, that the AI replace in the latest version of Photoshop is quite stunning and it’s improved quite a few photos that I’d discarded…

    Best wishes

I don't really know if it is any less useful than it has been for a long time really. I've been trying to use it as little as possible for a long time.

Actually, for non-english me their AI snippets display some usable [search] keywords immediately. Earlier I had to find wikipedia page and gather keywords there, now this step is often not needed.
Of course AI provided information is even less usable than wikipedia one. Unless they just copy wikipedia page :)

    What do you use instead?

    Hi,

Where AI really falls flat on its face is when the answer to a query contains some modern information along with some historical information as well. Then, it consistently fails to give the results in (a) modern and (b) historical. Instead, it mixes up the information such that we now have bits and pieces of both which then causes confusion.

In time, I suppose AI will learn how to differentiate and make a mess of things.
