Trying out a test post with a hosted photo.

    Great egret in flight:
    pbase.com/zackiedawg/image/173433738/original.jpg

The original photo is 2400x1600 - trying to see what size the site will post it at, whether clicking it enlarges it or goes to the original photo, etc.

Photo taken 2/25/2023, Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Florida. Sony A6600, Sony FE 100-400mm GM OSS lens, handheld.

OK - looks like the photo drastically resizes. Doesn't appear to be 'clickable' to enlarge. Doesn't link back to original hosted site.

For this post, I used the "image" icon in the task bar above. Does anyone know yet if there's a way to post larger hosted images by URL, or to have the photo be linkable or enlargeable?

I cant answer your questions, but its a nice pic and i'd have liked to click through to see it properly

When i added a pic using the "up arrow" the pics have to be less than 4M, but they do click to enlarge

I'm still experimenting with the forum features. I can right-click on your Great Egret image, then "Open in new tab". The new tab shows a 2400 x 1600 px image with lots of EXIF info. So it appears the data is intact, just not displayed at full size.

You can also use the "Upload" icon to upload an image file, then "Insert into message" (box-like icon). Let's see what happens with a 2048 x 1536 px image with EXIF info::

Oooooh...the image is clickable to enlarge!

Interesting - I didn't think about trying 'open in new tab' - but you're right - the full image and EXIF are there, and not linked to my original hosted page - so this site definitely has the data. Given how much they've built here in such a short time, I'll give them some time to get it sorted out.

I could upload the photos direct from my computer, but I'd prefer to just use the URLs from my photo site and link them over. Hopefully they'll add the click-to-enlarge to hosted photos too at some point.

Howdy mate. From your PC it is clickable. But as you say, if you want to use external links, at the moment you are stuck with what you have there.

Anyway, besides that, excellent shot. Stunningly beautiful BIF shot and using the Sony 200-600 I take it on the Sony APS-C. Nice to see you here for sure Justin. Makes the place all the more better, IMO.

    Danny.

The image of the Egret is not directly clickable on my desktop, but if I right-click it and open it in a new tab, I can click it to full-size diplay. I guess that will be the way also in order to view photos that are more than 4MP in size, which is the size limit for direct uploading.

Edit: Oops, didn't see the other answers that were already posted in reply to your photo, Justin. Nice shot, by the way! 🙂

Thanks all. Great to see you're over here Danny! I've missed seeing your posts in the DPR Sony forums. BTW, that shot particularly was with the APS-C A6600 and the 100-400mm GM lens - I mostly use the 200-600mm, but for BIF, at least in my area where the birds are often too close, I use the 100-400mm a little more.

Thanks Quatpat - hopefully as the site grows and sorts out everything, they may up the default posted size for linked photos, increase the photo upload size limit, and/or make the photos clickable to larger size display. I'm willing to give them some time to figure all that out - this site has grown from 0 to to 60 in no time at all, so it's reasonable to expect they'll work out more things once it's been running a while, and also once Dpreview shuts down and more migrants might start coming over!

Great picture. The details in the whites are really good. I still struggle with whites and blacks, but part of that might be my lack of photo editing skills.

As to the details of how images are posted resized etc., I'm sure that will be sorted out in time. Uploading and external links seem to work well enough for now.
