Google maps is odd at times. It uses pics from different times. When using street view from various streets around there, some views have the older red, blue, cream colors of the structure, and some the newer Mister car wash colors...

That’s OK Claude, we all run out of time now and then. I remember some of your previous contributions as being very good challenges and I hope you will be able to find some time for posting again in the future.
    Cheers,
    Max.

Hello Hans, are we looking at a town near the capital that was perhaps founded by an escapee?

Yes, he escaped the slaughter in a then mighty town (according to the Wikipedia article).

Clues: Two villas – one in and the other at the foot of it – are famous.
The name of the town became a symbol of amusement parks.

In lieu of catching the train, we might have a beer in the pub next door... 😊

Yes - very subtle clue there :-)

The town in question has a very short name.

Which, if you remove one letter from a word in Bryan's sentence, will give you the name of the town.

Bryan obviously knew the location but has not placed a guess - so a free Turn is now on offer.

The free turn was not taken up, perhaps because of ‘old hands’ migrating back to the original GTP on DPR?
For those still visiting this site who would like to see GTP continue here I’ll re-offer the free turn one more time.

FREE TURN. Be brave, post an image.

Some early seafarers spotted a shoal close to the coast. The mountain peak in the middle was noted as a visible indicator of proximity, providing similar to a lighthouse perhaps. Name of the mountain?

Clue: We might have a tot before bed off to the right of the pic...
Clue 2: Google search will find it if cropped a bit, but looking from different directions.
Clue 3: The seafarers were British exploring the Antipodes.
Clue 4: It is the last remnant of the core of a large shield volcano some 23 million years ago

The mountain is Mt Warning (Wollumbin to the local Bundjalung people). Named by Captain Cook in 1770. Viewed here inland from the SW. The Nightcap range is off image to the right.
