Help! What's going on with my exposure?

I've just got a used Olympus OM-D E-M1 II and Panasonic 100-400mm. In testing, I'm finding a confusing problem.

Through the evf the exposure looks correct. The final picture, when checked on camera looks correct. However, when I download the files to PC they look very much underexposed, both the 'super fine' jpeg and the raw. I've attached 2 example photos below. No editing apart from a resize. I used my phone to take an image of the back of the camera showing what I thought I'd taken (colours slightly off but exposure as seen), followed by the image I ended up with when transferred to PC.

I'm on full manual and using the -+ bar to get my exposure. I have not altered the brightness of the screen or evf. Am I missing something?

MY first guess would be that the Live Composite in the Live View Boost entry under D2 in the Gear Menu is ON ...

Manual Shooting Off
Bulb/Time On2
Live Composite Off
Others Off

Did you do a full reset when you first got the camera?
If not it would be worth doing one then you know you where you are starting from. To reset go to: Menu - top camera icon - reset /custom modes - reset - change basic to full.
It may fix your problem.
If not ask again then we will know the settings you are starting from too. :-)

Stupidly, I didn't. I went through customising it over 2 evenings and thought I should have reset it first! I'll give it reset, change nothing and see what I get tomorrow.

You probably have S-OVF on, which emulates an optical viewfinder, so the viewfinder will not represent the underexposure. The camera reset should disable it. Google for "Olympus S-OVF" or search the manual for details on how to enable and disable it.

If you are using manual mode, you might be adjusting your exposure (shutter speed and/or aperture) so that it outside of the range of the exposure meter indicator. It can only go -3 to + 3 stops. If you are out of the range, something should be blinking.

I asked the same question on DPReview a few months ago and was told that I shouldn't consider the OM-1 EVF as WYSWIG. I was used to trusting my G9 as I saw it so this came as a surprise. I still have a tendency to underexpose and I think that is despite what I have been told my brain still responds to what it sees. I suppose I should use the histogram but I am not a fan. I am also fully manual with EC.
